The island, Vashon, lies plump, curvy and green' in the icy waters of Puget Sound, and the house (dream) is the one the MacDonald family found there, after long search, and has lived in ever since. Betty MacDonald initiates everyone into the rigors of is- land-living in winter, the de- lights of the island-living in spring. Here are the long beaches, the rich clam beds, the lush gardens and flowering fields of one of America's loveliest and least-known spots. But more than that, this is a warm-hearted story of parents and growing children, of pets and neighbors and guests and handy- men, of sulks and laughter, of problems solved and pleasures shared. Even without onions, this would be a delectable stew. STUDENT COUNCIL L. Vivian, R. Poetsch, S. Kuchna, Mrs. Luksic, Advisor. SECOND ROW: R. Kondratyk, A. Rossman, A. Pelican, R. Dyda, C. Kurtz, D.
