This year students dropped their usual duds only to donn everything from togas to tinfoil for the spirit dress-up days. And the spirit was hot, especially in the popular Powder Puff football game between the ladies of S.A. High. In the preliminaries, the freshmen were eliminated by the juniors, and the seniors were defeated by the sophomores. The final game brought much excitement to the junior ladies who were victorious over the sopho- mores and were named the 1987 Pow- der Puff Champs. The grueling tug-of-war which fol- lowed the ladies ' football game was won by the seniors. South Adams principal, Larry Piety, also got into the spirit of things. He quickly found out (the hard way!) that being voted the lucky winner of the kiss-a-pig con- test wasn ' t all it was cracked up to be. And crack up we did, when during Thurdsay afternoon ' s pep session, Mr. Pi- ety forlornly claimed his prize — a kiss from the ™ prettiest pig in the litter! There is more to spirit week than pigs, of course. There ' s the Lip Sync contest. This gave students a chance to get up on stage and sync, jam, and jive to their favorite tunes. This year ' s talented winner was a group of fresh- men girls: Rochelle Sharp, Chastity Wulliman, Lesley Beer, and Donna Double. They synced their way to first place with the song, The Good Ship Lollipop . Following the Lip Sync contest, ev- eryone flocked the heat of the bon- fire. Football coaches and Senior play- ers spoke to the crowd and lifted ev- eryone ' s spirits for the game the following evening. Before the game could begin, though, the crowning of the 1987 Homecoming Queen and King took place. Last year ' s queen and king, Rhonda Tschannon and Kent Lehman were present to do the honors Rhonda had the privilege of crowning the new South Adams royalty, Lori Liechty and Ryan Holley. Lori and Ryan reigned over the game against the An- gola Hornets, as well as the remainder of the evening. Though the contest against the Hor- nets was not won, the Starfires played an exciting game. The crowd was also treated to an en- tertaining half-time show presented by the band, poms, flags, and feature twirler. They performed a difficult show featuring various favorite Disney melodies. After all this excitement, many stayed and danced the night away to the hot tunes played by the feature d.j., Off the Record . The week was fit for royalty and was planned by the Student Council — to make dreams and memories last for- ever.
