One such person has given much of his time and energy, not only through the classroom , but also through athletics and other special activities. Throughout our four years of high school, he has increased our knowledge of life, and has shown care and concern towards South Adams High School. As a result, the Senior class of 1976 would like to thank Mr. LARRY LEISTNER for all his care and concern. We dedicate the 1976 Reflection to him. 4 I SH0IN3S RANDY ABBOTT JANELLE AGLER TONY ANDERSON TIM ARMSTRONG TERESA BAILEY DAVID BAUMAN BONNIE BEER TOM BEITLER Seniors 7 RHONDA BERTSCH KELLY BOOHER ROD BOLLENBACHER CURTIS CHAFFINS TIM CINCOTTA SONJA COBLENTZ CAROL CULVER SVEN CLARK 8 Seniors PENNY DOHERTY GREG DUBACH DALE DYCK DAVE FARRIS DIANE FLUECKIGER RICKY FLUECKIGER Seniors 9 JAMES FOSNAUGH RICK GODSEY DEAN HABEGGER LINDA HABEGGER MIKE HABEGGER DAVE HANDLEY KAY HASINBILLER CONNIE HENN 10 Seniors TIM HIRSCHY FERIL HOFFER DEANNE HOFSTETTER JEFF HUFFMAN LORI KAESER TERRY HUNT rl LAURIE KAESER CURT KELLER Seniors 11 CAROL KIRSCH DAN KOEHLER STEVE KUHN GARY LENGERICH GREG MANNING GLEN MATHYS TAB LIECHTY MIKE LIECHTY 12 Seniors DEBBIE McCROSKEY lise McFarland JIM MINNICH JOYCE MINNICH PATTI MOORE CAROLYN MOSER RHONDA MOSER TOM MUSELMAN Seniors 13 JULIE NAGEL ALLEN NEUENSCHWANDER JANET NEUENSCHWANDER STAN NEUENSCHWANDER JEANETTE NEVIL SHERRI NOLL KATHY O’DELL FRANCES PARR 14 Seniors TAMMY PATCH DAVE PYLE JENNIE REICHERT TARA RIESEN MIKE ROOP RUTH RHOR MARY ANN SCHWARTZ Seniors 15 SONJA SCHWARTZ DAVID SMITH JAMES SMITH KENDRA SNYDER BECKY SPRUNGER CRAIG SPRUNGER CYNTHIA SPRUNGER CHARLES 16 Seniors DANA SPRUNGER ELLEN SPRUNGER KENT SPRUNGER LARRY SPRUNGER LISA SPRUNGER LEW SPRUNGER SUANNE SPRUNGER DEBBY STUCKEY Seniors 17 LARRY THORNTON CINDY TIMMONS MARK VAN EMON KIRK VELASCO LEE VON GUNTEN 18 Seniors LINDA VORHEES BRAD WEAVER KEN WHISLER JEFF WHITEHURST JON WINTEREGG GWEN WULLIMAN JEREMI YAGER BRENDA YANCY Seniors 19 IN MEMORY To live in hearts We leave behind Is not to die. Author unknown On October 6, 1975, tragedy struck at South Adams High School. A car mishap claimed the life of Steven Allan Paul, a member of the 1976 senior class. Steve was an active member of FFA, and also participated in church activities. He was well-liked by his fellow classmates, and was an outstanding individual. We hereby dedicate this senior section to Steve Paul. 20 Seniors CLASS OFFICERS: Tim Cincotia, President: Rhonda Bertsch, Vice President; Joyce Minnich, Secretary; Dan Koehler, Treasurer. Graduation day brought with it many mixed emotions. As seniors, we were relieved that the stress and strain of high school was over; however, deep inside most everyone felt sadness at having to say goodbye to close friends and fellow classmates. We realized that we would never see some of these people again; nevertheless, the memory of South Adams High School and this class will always remain in our hearts. 24 Seniors Pictures, Left Page, TOP TO BOTTOM, L-R: 1. The Starfires were off to a good start when injuries started taking their toll, most of these going to returning lettermen. Even though they finished with a 2-8 season, they maintained a good attitude and always kept trying. Also, the underclassmen gained much experience which will be helpful to them in the coming years. 46 Sports SCHOOLS WE THEY Norwell 7 6 Angola 6 18 Bellmont 6 14 Eastbrook 12 6 Adams Central 6 33 East Noble 7 45 Jay County 0 48 Bluffton 0 20 Garrett 7 41 Dekalb 6 21 Pictures, L. to R., Top to Bottom: 1. Sports 51 Homecoming On October 17th, South Adams High School was scheduled to hold their annual Homecoming activities, but due to the weather conditions, the activities were cancelled and rescheduled for the following evening. This night proved to be more disastrous than the previous one as the thermometer read a chilly 30, and Mother Nature had blessed us with 25 mph winds and a skin-drenching rainstorm. In spite of the loss of the football game and the cancellation of the parade, the night was not a total loss. The king and queen were crowned at half-time, and the dance and chicken barbecue were held. Pictures: King Tim Cincotta kisses the announced queen Joyce Minnich. Each class spent many hours (and some too much money$$) into putting these together. Their efforts were not in vain, though, as a lot of good floats were produced. Much to the dismay of many upperclassmen, the eighth grade float took first place with the theme Jaws Wait for Tiger Bait. ’ 54 Sports Pictures, Left Page, L. to R., Top to Bottom: 1. 1st place 8th grade float. 2. 3rd place Junior float. 3. 4th place Freshman float. 4. Moose (Kent) Werst, a junior on the team, and the only seniors, Feril Hoffer and Lee Von-Gunten, did a great job. South Adams is not only proud of these but also of the whole team. Sports 57 Girls' Basketball The girls had a good season and finished with a 10-7 record. They played together well and showed a lot of pride and spirit. They were defeated in an overtime game of the sectional finals by a single point in a fine performance. Pictures: 1. Let's score! 2. Music 81 Larry Sprunger unites Suanne Sprunger and Mike Habegger in holy matrimony in the high school musical Of Thee I Sing. 83 Of Thee I Sing” was presented this year as the South Adams High School musical. The story concerned President Wintergreen (Mike Habegger) and Mary Turner (Suanne Sprunger), who met, fell in love, and married, in spite of the fact that President Winter-green was supposed to marry the winner of the beauty pageant, Diana Debaroh (Connie Henn). The production was very comical as Wintergreen, with the help of his aides, managed to get into office and out of all kinds of trouble. 84 Dramatics Both Pages, Left to Right, Top to Bottom: 1. There’s just one week left of school and then I’m on my own. Can't wait till graduation . . . it’ll be great. I’ll cruise up front, grab that diploma, say ’’thanks, buddy,” and run. S’pose I don’t know where I’m going though. Before, all I did was follow the crowd. I knew I could always find someone at the bowling alley, at Trees or just drivin' around. But it’s gonna be different. We’ll all head different directions and try to make it on our own. Look at this - letting graduation get to me this way after twelve years of being a hard guy. Oh geez . . . gotta get back to the routine. 1 may even miss that when it’s over. . had the security of the school routine and its activities, surrounded by the friends 1 was so familiar with and loved so much. Now we’ll all go in different directions. I wonder how long it will be before the memories that meant so much start to fade. After twelve years of this, you would think that I would be ready to move on, but I feel like I’m leaving a part of me behind. Maybe that’s good, though, because I really have changed in the last few years that I’ve been here. Well, pretty soon, they’ll get to my name. Then I’ll be up there and it will be all over. In a way, I guess everything’s really just beginning. 1 185 Last Minute Memories As graduating seniors, we enjoy looking back to our earlier years of high school. Our freshman year is really something to remember. The beginning year of high school, and what did we do but switch from the old school to the new one. Moving days9 the joining of pep club, the beginning of participating in high school sports and activities, struggling through the first year of a foreign language, running down rrsenior hall” and wondering ij we could ever be as mature as those upcoming graduates — these were experiences shared by everyone. Our sophomore year didn't bring about as many new experiences as did the previous one but still it held excitement. Class rings9 licenses, and the beginning of rrbombing around” gave us something to get enthused about. Although we were only sixteen, we began to acquire new responsibilities and we took a forward step toward maturity. Still being considered as underclassmen by the seniors but viewing ourselves as upperclassmen9 we had a full junior year. We were the first class to have a sectional coat check, where we sold candy rfundercover to help defray some of the Jr.-Sr. costs. And, oh9 what work went into that Reception. It was something to be really proud of. That year responsibilities began mounting up and we were forced to begin thinking about what we would do after graduation. Our senior year. We had made it this far, but could ice make it after graduation on our own? Our dreams from yesterday were becoming a Yeality. Many seniors fell ill to the dreadful sickness, senioritis. Teachers were dismayed by what was termed rsenior taper”; however, we had serious moments also. Senior finals were a thing to be dreaded, but as in many other instances, we survived. Most of all, we will remember May 30, 1976. It teas a time to put the past behind us and begin to build new tomorrows for ourselves. 191 192
