They Are Changing I As the inhabitants of this planet Moved into the 70 ' s, They gazed into the heavens. Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, And it was to be, One small step for a man, One giant leap for mankind. However, unity ceased as people Came down to earth. Countries were again divided By prejudices, hatred, and problems. Citizens of the United States Remembered Viet Nam, a festering sore . . . Students marched, asking for change. South Adams ' pupils also wondered, What has happened here? Nothing remains the same. Outward structures were changed: Milk cartons, automated french fries. Music and basketball uniforms. Disposable graduation gowns, plans For a new school . . . Modular scheduling, and even more Important, our inner selves. Outlooks were altered by age and experience. Throughout his four years at S.A. , and our four years of high school he has contributed to our knowledge of life even as he extended our biological curricu- lum . Despite the fact the Stars lost the game to the Knights, the day was a big success. Deb Spichiger was crowned Homecoming Queen with Jana Jones, Marty Minnich, Susie Fulton, Lora Lehman and Mari WuUiman composing her court. Following the FFA chicken barbeque, a dance featuring the Wall Street Journal was held in the gym. A fountain with gold fish, palms and a velvet throne composed the de- cor. Convocations , breaks in the routine school day, were always met with enthusiasm. Top- ics varied from sex to pollution. Musical groups played and sang pop, classical and religious pieces. A film, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, also provided the needed change in the daily schedule. The increase in convocations this year has been signifi- cant. Even more meaningful convos are anticipated for the future. It Left: Bethel College Choir Below : Huntington Choir Below : Folk musical Tell It Like It Is presents old mes- sage in new rhythms. [ Hypotheses Taken to Science Fair The science fair involved many hours of investigation for students. Their work was rewarded as they received tro- phies and knowledge. Reflecting the trend of the day, Jo- anne Sprunger ' s grand prize project concerned the effectsof dr ugs. Second place in the Senior biological section was given to Rick Gulp and Mark Conrad who worked with coc- cidiosis. In the physical division, Steve Garboden and Ed Liechty won first for their gas chromatography project. Bruce Weimer, with light diffraction, placed second. Left: Judges acquit or condemn young scientists efforts. Sweetheart Banquet On the evening of February 14, the Sunshine Society held its annual Sweetheart Banquet. The school cafeteria was decorated in accordance with the theme of Our Win- ter Love. ■■A nineteenth century sleigh with green vel- vet cushions was the dominant feature in the decor. Prior to the banquet the girls and their dates could have their pictures taken by a photographer. Following the meal of steak, baked potatoes , combination salad, corn, and strawberry shortcake, the couples were entertained by a trio from the lU-Purdue Regional Campus at Fort Wayne. Despite bus and dress code controversies, SABB com- pleted its eleventh annual program. Dr. Andrew Har- per led the choir. The receptive group was intrigued with his manner and bowing technique. Under the di- rection of Dean Depoy, the bands, long rehearsed, per- formed admirably. For a time, music bridged the chasm of sports rivalry. DDT deaths, gas masks, soap suds, beer cans, snakes, television, music and slides were all apart of SA ' sTeach-In. Thevaiied presentations hadone purpose: to promote awareness of pollution. Ernest Lesiukand Jerry Colglazier, as speakers, helped pro- vide basic information. Also, discussion for high school and elementary students gave the iniationfor action. With little hesitation, the movie Wait Until Dark began, accompanied by screams and shivers. From the shack, food was elegantly served and gratefully devoured.
