MARCH OF TIME Soochow University Law College Cluly 1962 - June 19635 July 1962 5th The Survey Team of three scholars. arrives on the camqus to begin the analysis of the work and plans of the University in connection with the future developmet program: two of the group, Dr. John O. Gross, of the Board of Christian Education of the Methodist Church, and Dr. Y. K. Chu, of Skidmore College, are sent out from the United Statesg and they are joined locally by Prof. Beauson Tseng of National Taiwan University. The Board of Missions of the Methodist Church, in sending them, has commissioned them to investigate higher education in Taiwem and tc recommend as to the enlargement of Soochow into a 'complete university. LQ Miss Huang Feng-yueh, the ex-president of Soochow University Student Association, leaves here for Japan, as Soochow's delegate to the Ninth International Student Conference. Q The University calls the Sth Council Meeting of the academic year 1961--32 to study revisions 'of the University regulations. August 1st Dr. Andrew Lee, Head of the Law Department, leaves for America to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association, to be held in San Francisco, Aug. 5th-11th. 3rd The University calls the lst Council Meeting of the academic year 1952-1963 to pass the final regulations dealing with qualifications and promotion of teachers. , September lst -- The 403 new students, which are allotted to Soochow by the Joint Entrance Examination 10th 20th Committee, enroll and register for the fall semester. The first semester of the academic year 1962-1963 begins. -22nd -- This is the week for the orientation of new students. This training' program is 20th 26th conducted by the chief of'each office and the head' of each department. The chief of the Business Offce, Mr. Chen Hsin, resigns, and his place is taken ay Mr. Shih Chih-kang. --.The Christian Student Fellowship of Soochow begins its four-day summer conference at Wesley Grove, Yangmingshan, with ninety students participating. The program is under the general direction of Mr. F. P. Smith, the Chaplain, and'Mrs. Smith. Prof. Chen Pin of the Accounting Department participates in the English Essay Contest, winning first place on the theme, Productivity and Management Developmentn. In this contest, which is sponsored by the Asian Production Power Organization Institution, there are eight countries entering contestants for three first class prizes. Mr. Chen's victory is an honor to our university. October lg- The university begins formally today, with a total enrollment of 1395 students in all departments: 372 freshmen, and 1023 old students. Q- The university fees are rearranged according to the new scale announced by the- Ministry of Education. iQ Double Tenthii, or National Holiday. The university is sending a broadcast service car to participate in the Taipei People's Parade. . it Miss Hsu Mgen, of the Department of Foreign Languages, wins first place in the Youth's Solo Contest, sponsored by the Anti-Communist National Salvation Youth Corps.

E Mr. Wu Tung-hsing of the Foreign Languages Department of Soochow University holds Il photo exhibit at the Rose Marie Tea Room, showing pictures taken at the Wild-Willow Ceach. - The University calls the second Council Meeting of the academic year 1962-1963. E The university requests that the name of Wai Shuang I-Ist Bridge be changed to Wang Hsing Bridge with the permission of the Yangmingshan Administration Burean, and with the agreement from the Highway Bureau. The purpose of changing the original name of the bridge is gto call up the memory of Soochow. All students of past years in Soochow, remember the well-known bridge with its donkeys, and boats, and Buddhist Shrine, and portable ovens with their fresh Ta Pings' and steaming hot potatoes and tea eggs . Q -- The Ching Ching ,Drama Association of S. U. makes lier virgin performance at the Student . . Center, in an anti-communist drama. The performance is greatly appreciated by the spectators. November Q Twelve members or S. U. Student Christian Fellowship, led by Assistant Dean Huang, leave Taipei for Pa Li Hsiang to visit the Presbyterian Chureh there, and to start a visitation program. This visit is arranged by Mr. Smith. The group will come back on the evening of the twelfth. JM Miss Wei Chin-ning of the Accounting Department participates in the College Student Business English Typing Contest, sponsored by the Engineering Association of' Chinese Industry, winning the first place. The Student Christian Fellowship of S. U. starts to cooperate with the Private Ta-tung A Orphanage in its Sunday School program. E -- Dr. Stone and Mr. Smith depart for Hong Kong to attend the 7th annual meeting of the Wesley Methodist Church. Cllaiwan and Hong Kong Districtsj. Dr. Stone plans to collect- funds from the Soochow alumni in Hong Kong for completion of the Student Center. Four superintendents from the MOE.,'Mr. Chang Clzen-yu, Mr. Chang Chou, Mr. Chung Chien and Mr. Hsu Yen-chun arrive on the campus to inspect the school. A Christmas party is held at the Student Center. There are Worship , Hymn Singing , Santa Clausw, and Presents Exchange items on the program to be provided in flie party. The Private Ta-tung Orphanage also provides several performances. ' The 24th and the 25th will be Christmas holidays. . Dr. Stone, on invitation of the Taiwan Christian Association. gives the message for the annual Christmas program at the Taipei City Hall. The Ching-Ching Drama Club also gives a performance. ' ' The Fellowship and the Chorus cooperate in the group Caroling plan. They start from the campus at nine o'clock on Christmas eve and come back at midnight.
