MARCH OF TIME Soochow University Law College Cluly 1962 - June 19635 July 1962 5th The Survey Team of three scholars. arrives on the camqus to begin the analysis of the work and plans of the University in connection with the future developmet program: two of the group, Dr. John O. Gross, of the Board of Christian Education of the Methodist Church, and Dr. Y. K. Chu, of Skidmore College, are sent out from the United Statesg and they are joined locally by Prof. Beauson Tseng of National Taiwan University. The Board of Missions of the Methodist Church, in sending them, has commissioned them to investigate higher education in Taiwem and tc recommend as to the enlargement of Soochow into a 'complete university. LQ Miss Huang Feng-yueh, the ex-president of Soochow University Student Association, leaves here for Japan, as Soochow's delegate to the Ninth International Student Conference. Q The University calls the Sth Council Meeting of the academic year 1961--32 to study revisions 'of the University regulations. August 1st Dr. Andrew Lee, Head of the Law Department, leaves for America to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association, to be held in San Francisco, Aug. 5th-11th. 3rd The University calls the lst Council Meeting of the academic year 1952-1963 to pass the final regulations dealing with qualifications and promotion of teachers. , September lst -- The 403 new students, which are allotted to Soochow by the Joint Entrance Examination 10th 20th Committee, enroll and register for the fall semester. The first semester of the academic year 1962-1963 begins. -22nd -- This is the week for the orientation of new students. This training' program is 20th 26th conducted by the chief of'each office and the head' of each department. The chief of the Business Offce, Mr. Chen Hsin, resigns, and his place is taken ay Mr. Shih Chih-kang. --.The Christian Student Fellowship of Soochow begins its four-day summer conference at Wesley Grove, Yangmingshan, with ninety students participating. The program is under the general direction of Mr. F. P. Smith, the Chaplain, and'Mrs. Smith. Prof. Chen Pin of the Accounting Department participates in the English Essay Contest, winning first place on the theme, Productivity and Management Developmentn. In this contest, which is sponsored by the Asian Production Power Organization Institution, there are eight countries entering contestants for three first class prizes. Mr. Chen's victory is an honor to our university. October lg- The university begins formally today, with a total enrollment of 1395 students in all departments: 372 freshmen, and 1023 old students. Q- The university fees are rearranged according to the new scale announced by the- Ministry of Education. iQ Double Tenthii, or National Holiday. The university is sending a broadcast service car to participate in the Taipei People's Parade. . it Miss Hsu Mgen, of the Department of Foreign Languages, wins first place in the Youth's Solo Contest, sponsored by the Anti-Communist National Salvation Youth Corps.
