MEMORIAL POOL OF TUOLUMNE COUNTY A long-fostered dream of Tuolumne County residents was realized in June 1956, when a new 365,000 public swimming pool was opened on the campus of the Sonora Union High School. For more than 30 years the project had been planned and dreamed of by public spirited citizens, but the entire heart and soul of the community was not in this huge volunteer project until a memorial fund was established for jean Palmer, a little girl who drowned. However, a four-year-long fund raising campaign reached the goal in the fall of 1955. The fund represented donations from nearly everyone in the county in funds, materials, or labor. At that time the Board of Trustees of Sonora Union High School agreed that the community swimming pool could be built on school property, and the construction was underway. , Community leaders who participated as a volunteer Board of Directors in making the pool a reality were: Norman Hill, President Mrs. Louis Price, Vice President Mrs. Leslie Grooms, Secretary Marcel Baer, Treamrer Archie D. Stevenot Richard Palmer Milton Dambacher DeLaine Burks Dr. Herbert E. Wilson Mrs. Josie Terzich M. O. Queirolo Wilson Meyer Donald I. Segerstrom Floyd Stirewalt james R. Hardin the late F. Edmund O'Connell Indeed the new pool is a living memorial to those in whose memory many donations were made. It is with deep gratitude that we dedicate this Green and Gold to all those people who contributed their time, money, materials, and labor to the realization of a longtime dream.

M 12-'WW' Q. ' - ..., V .ff If you were to look in a mirror that would enable you to see the reflection of 50 years ago, what would you find? You would find half a century has wrought many changes. Clothes styles have certainly changed and even customs and ideas. There has been quite a change in yearboolcs also. A Green and Gold of 50 years ago contained 5 pictures in a 50-page book. Eleven pages were filled with ads and jokes. In the remaining 26 pages there were stories and poems written by students. An editorial stated that the Green and Gold was devoted to Literature, Athletics, Social News, Humor and other Interests of the School. In today's Green and Gold there are many more pic- tures but much less writing. The 1957 Green and Gold is almost 5 times as large as that of 50 years ago. We of the staff hope this 50th volume will afford you many hours of pleasurable remembrances. MIMI SIKORA, Editor
