BRYAN HUNT DEDICATION We wish to express our deep and sincere appreciation to you, Mr. Bryan Hunt, by the dedication of this, our 1948 annual. We want to thank you for helping make our school what it is today. In the past eleven years that you .have served as president of the School Board: nothing has ever been asked of you that was too large or too small for your time and con- sideration. You have done everything possible to assist us in our moral, physical, and mental development. By your gra- cious manner you have made us feel that we were doing you a favor in accepting your assistance. We want to let you know that we are grateful for the many things you do for us which are never known to the general public. All students are known to you as your friends, and you are known to all stu- dents as their school friend. We respect you for your kindness towards everyone, your graciousness, and your high ideals. Through your deeds of kindness and generosity, and your idealistic beliefs, you have won a place in our hearts, and we are humble, and yet proud, to make this tribute to your never-ending services. BBONCO GRIDIRON REVIEW The Sonora Broncos opened the 1947 football season by branding the Robert Lee Steers, former bi-dis trict champs, 25-0. Uvalde, a class A team with weight and experience to spare could do no better than to defeat the fighting Broncos 12-6. The Broncos received a scare from the Iunction Eagles which probably did them more good than any- tlging else. The Eagles scored first, and made the Broncos fight for everything they got. Sonora came out on top 19-14. Sonora had previously defeated the Big Lake Owls 12-O to launch their championship drive. Superiority was shown in every play as the Broncos thundered to a decisive 27-0 win over the lapless Eldorado Eagles. Striking with a fury and a determination that never wavered, the Sonora Broncos defeated a good Ozona team 25-7. A wonderful team of Broncos rose to the heights of football glory as they defeated their most feared rivals. The most outstanding play came in the third quarter when Hayden Barker returned a punt 75 yards behind a solid wall of blockers. After playing a brilliant game against Ozona, the Broncos were unable to cope with the diversified attack of the Menard Yellow lackets losing 14-7. But a week later, Menard suffered a similar loss at the hands of the Iunction Eagles. This loss gave Sonora a tie for the Championship with Menard. Menard was voted to represent the district in bi-district play. The Sonora Broncos finished one of their most successful seasons by placing four men on the Al1-Dis- trict Team. They are Phillip Cooper, guard, Charles Cusenbary, center, Wayne Ogden, end, George QBubbyD Chalk, at a halfback slot. Assistant Coca Head Coach Junior COGC11 Blflke YGQQT Mack Alexander Edwin Thompson 9: ,f gm BOBBY ALLEN, a junior, was the dashing fullback of the '47 team. Weighing only l43 pounds Bobby was one of the hardest running sacks, not only on the Bronco team, but in the district. I-le is expected io earn his third letter next year, oy turning in an excellent brand Jf football in his fullback position. 3UBBY CHALK, senior quarterback, .s known in the Football World :rs the most valuable player to the Sonora team. Bubby is a member of :he first string all-district team. This is proof enough that he is an ex- :ellent runner, a punter, and an ex- :ellent field general. This is Bubby's last year and the whole school wishes to thank him for his contri- bution to the Sonora team. FRANKIE BOND is a flashing senior, who is also flashing and fast on the football field. Frankie plays left-half back, and was on the sec- ond all-district team two years, and on the first all-district team one year. He was given the Lions Club award for three years, as being the out- standing back. NORBEHT IVICINTYRE outstanding runner on the Bronco team has made very much yardage in every game. S.H.S. is sorry to lose this great runner of the gridiron. Good luck Norbert! All-district guard, PHILLIP COOPER, has shown everyone that he can play hard football and still possess the virtue of sportsmanship. WAYNE OGDEN: This fine, young, lad was chosen All-District End be- cause of his exceptionally fine ball playing. Besides this, he was sec- ond high scorer for his team. Wayne shows, shines, and beams on offense and his pass is outstanding. He is just a junior now, so Wayne will be back to star on the Bronco team once again. CHARLES CUSENBARY established himself as one of the most outstand- ing centers Sonora has ever had. Charlie was unanimously selected as All-District Center this year and received second string mention year before last. JACKIE SHARP is a senior who has done well on the football team as guard. Good luck, Iackie. IOHNNY SMITH is a junior who con- tributed his talents to the football season as end. S.H.S. is expecting much of this player next fall. GERALD WEST. wavy haired tackle. really shined on offense. He really supported his school, in this his last year. SCOTT WALTERS, first team junior guard made officials sit up and take notice. Hard playing won him honorable mention on the All-Dis- trict team. This outstanding guard will return next year to help pave the way for the Broncos. Eighty-five yards was just a breeze for HAYDEN BARKER. This out- standing junior back, will be here to run the socks off the opponents again next year. Hard-running Bronco back George Hamilton played exceptionally good ball this year. George is a high school junior and has another year to represent S.H.S. on the gridiron. Good luck, George! IOHN WESLEY IOY played left end on the reserve squad. Iohn Wesley is a junior and great things are ex- pected of his football career next year. DEBREL ALLEY is a junior who plays center. Derrell has exceptional power, and will be outstanding as center next year. IOE KILE was a 150 pound reserve tackle on the Bronco squad. Ioe is expected to fill a big gap in the Bronco forward wall next year.
