The school must depend on its com- Q munity for survival, since without local support education becomes almost meaningless. The students of Sonoma High would like to thank our town for its past support, and hope the theme of Y this year's El Padre, the School and the Community: o JN Their Relationship, will help to express our deepest feel- ings about Sonoma. If M. 4535 ml if EL 43. Responsibility is a duty or obligation which we may entrust to another or accept as our own. How wisely we make the de- cisions of when to take and when to give is the measure of our individual freedom. Those who are willing and able to accept responsibility increase their stature and strengthen our democ- racy. He who lets George do it becomes dependent upon George. He who is self-reliant remains free and independent. JOHN L. GLAESE, Principal 533 oflflr D. A. PFEIFFER 5 Q fn. GODWARD Dean of Boys Dean of Girls Q, ,fe A-'b 57:5 , FACULTY BEATRICE C. People-pouring out of late busses . . . Stragglers--hurrying home from town . . . Drivers-hoping to find that last-minute parking place. The gay laughter seeping through the halls. Talk of the activities of the past and future. Locker doors slamming wildly as students hustle to and from class. Students-once finding their class, fight that never-ending battle with lost sleep. On a winter morning the gym-cold as an icebox, with icicles dripping from the showers. The mad scramble of traffip as the noon bell rings-a sign apparently mean- ing head for Vella's the Do-Nut Kitchen, the Matador, or favorite campus spot. Returning from lunch, students, with full stomachs, books in hand, nothing in mind, rush to avoid those ever-present tardies. And Fridays, beautiful, wonderful Fridays. Through the halls, smiling faces, happy faces. Excitement rising through each period of the day, and finally 7th period, voices heard yelling in competition . . . the skit with its nervous participants-the results of the competition and the excited class. Yes, this is Friday! The hush of the crowd before the kick-off, the friendly shouts and chorus in the warm basketball gym, the wisp of dust that curls across the diamond when the pitcher toes the rubber, and the roar of the crowd when a Dragon, thinclad, rounds the far turn into the home stretch and races for the tape. Yes, the song leaders, yell-leaders, majorettes, band, and drill team are the fun and color that help make up the kaleidoscope that is our school. The spirit, the sameness, the feeling of belonging assist in preparing us for the future. Long after the school day ends, remain the ghosts of the students--the sad and happy incidents of the day return to the outside world. The world that passes by while we are enclosed in a shell of learning. This is Sonoma High. 31 'I af' 4, gfv fq fig ,xx i gy n K 5 M , 53: v Q ' ' M ', ik s 'Y ' ' .' Lady Luck just wouldn't smile on the Dragons, and they clidnit get their first league win until they played Novato. They ended the season with a two win, eight loss record. Both winning games were against Novato. Coach Kocheis netmen proved their scoring ability in the last game with K- Hall. Captain Novato when they won a close 64-62. The student who goes out for this team gets no letter, no uniform, and hardly a field to play ong nevertheless, Frosh-Soph baseball always has a big turnout. This year 50 boys signed up for the team, and chances look good. Coach DeLong will take over the job of coaching the J.V.'s', while Mr. Yaich moves up to the varsity. As the El Padre goes to press, the Frosh-Soph team has not played its first game, but with so many players out Coach DeLong ought to be able to put together a pretty sturdy team.
