Teachers found the silent moving picture valuable as an educational aid. Its value was multiplied many times by the addition of sound. The combina- tion of radio and video in television will supplement the work of the teach- er. lt will bring to the classroom ex- periences, materials, or demonstrations that are not readily available to the classroom teacher. Television, a mechanical device, can never replace the reality of the class- room, where one mind meets another to create thought, where a person learns group adiustments, where he can feel the warmth of friendship. DOROTHY GODWARD Dean of Girls University oi California, B.A., M.A. Junior Engineer Last fall everyone in school looked forward to better conditions after con- struction work on the buildings was completed, and were not disappointed when the time arrived. Similarly, 'the construction period' of a high school student's career may seem difficult, but if he builds well while in school, he should look for- ward to a better future with confi- dence. BOARD OF TRUSTEES-Left to right: John L. Glaese, A. L. Ford, R. Hotz, H. Coops, S. C. Mitchell, Mrs. P. Mulford, D. A. Pfeiffer. The Board of Trustees for Sonoma Valley Union High School consists of five members who are elected for a three year term. They are the main governing body of the school, and their iob is an important one. They make the rules and regu- lations for the school, and they make the deci- sions on all important issues. They have been kept on their toes this past year because of the construction work that has, and is, being done, they have done a wonderful iob in sometimes difficult and trying circumstances. Sonoma Valley Union High School District will remember the work done by this present board for years to come. PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION-Left to right: Mrs. Van Es, Mrs. Cummings, Mrs. Griewe, Mrs. Wil- Iiams, Mrs. Lanning, Mrs. Graves, Mr. Glaese, Mrs. Carlson, Mrs. Oakes. Because of the significant and challenging theme of 1954, Opportunity Unlimited, we readily concede that an attempt to accomplish this must reach out into the years. We desire un- limited opportunity for all high school students to the degree of pressing into existence a partner- ship of parents, educators and citizens, who will sincerely seek the highest good of these young people-their limitless opportunity. 5 XVQJIP Pleasurable recollections of this past ,year are the well-attended meetings at which parents, fac- ulty and students shared viewpoints and came to amicable understanding in matters pertaining to discipline, the grading system, chaperonage at school functions, and the morals of high school students in general-all of these contributing to the determined goal. MRS. PETER VAN ES, President
