Senior liliiss Hislnry After spending our first few weeks os sophomores getting ocquainted with the mysteries of S.H.S., the Closs of '53 settled down to o full schedule of activities ond social events. In November we elected our Sophomore Executive Committee: Ralph DeGruttolo, Joon Sheo, Marie Wade, and Joseph Rosselli. Many sophomores participated in the musicol concerts. Tech Tourney finalist boskctball team, ond State Champion baseball teom. Our junior year was o typically busy one with mony Junior Jumboes receiving awards ond prizes. Our class officers, elected in November, were: President, Ralph DeGruttolo; Vice- President, Joan Sheo; Secretary, Marie Wode; ond Treasurer, Joseph Rosselli. Fred Johnson received the Horvord Book Prize for being the outstanding junior. Lorraine Mahoney captured first prize for her essay on Thrift . Our representatives to Boys' State were Williom Dewire, Fred Johnson, Ralph Laurctono, ond Albert Lussicr. The basketball team again gained dis- tinction os a Tech Tourney finolist. Our Senior year was an octive one filled with plans for the Ycorbook, Senior Night, Closs Day ond Graduation. Many of our capable, dependable students ossisted with these plans. In November the Senior Class re-elected their former Junior Closs officers: President, Ralph Dc Gruttolo; Vice-President Joon Sheo; Secretory, Moric Wode; and Treasurer, Joseph Rosselli. The Music Deportment sponsored Talent Night, the Girls' Glee Club Concert, Boys' Glee Club Concert, and Bond Concert. Many of our seniors were feotured soloists ot these concerts. The annual scholarship play, Father of the Bride, was staged by the Players' Club in December with eight seniors participating. For his outstanding performance in the leoding role, David Moclsooc was aworded the Ployers' Club Trophy. The Ployers' Club olso participated in the Drama Festival ot Marblchcod. As olwoys, our athletic teoms were a credit to S.H.S. The football teom wos invited to the post-season Exchonge Bowl gome in which it defeated the Boston chompion, B. C. High; the basketball team enjoyed its usual successful season. Mony of our othletes were named to all-scholostic teams. Ernest Possero represented S.H.S. in the Red Feather Oratorical Contest, toking second place in the Eostern Massachusetts finals. Our successful prom on May 6 wos due to the diligent work of the Senior Night Committee. Pauline Buckland, Glodys Skeffington, Paul Abrohamian, Richard Penczic ond David Schoejbe. Along with all the cxtro-curriculor activities, we, os Seniors, set on outstanding scholastic record. Fifteen pupils were nomed to the Maximum Credit list ond forty-one to the Credit list for the first quorter; eight Maximum Credit ond fifty-eight Credit for the second quarter. Closs Day wos plonned by the elected committee of Arline Roberts, Noncy Brodlcy, Betsy Stobo, Dovid Moclsooc, ond Richard Santos. As con be seen by a quick backward glance, the Closs of '53 ochieved scholastic, athletic, ond activity records that will stond os a mark for closses in future yeors. Sixteen
