Editorial Dcor Clossmotcs: Hovcn't our high school doys passed quickly — almost too quickly to hove accomplished os much os we'd like in these fost moving times! Yet, os the post three years ot Somerville High School ore reviewed and memories come flooding through our minds, the doys hove been filled with activity. We shall never forget the goietics of our youth — in time, they moy be tucked unobtrusively into o corner of our memory, but we shall never entirely forget them. Perhaps, about now, we might be feeling quolms os to whether we ore quite ready to enter the world — on our own! I think we ore; becouse of modern education ond troining, we hove the greot odvontogc of understanding the complexities of the world situotion. No longer must one venture blindly forth. As the future businessmen, politicians, ond homemakers of the United States, our responsibility is greot. Ycors from now when we leaf through the poges of this 1952 Yeorbook, faces of classmates who hove mode o plocc for themselves, who hove led successful lives, will be recognized. One of our moin purposes in compiling the Yeorbook has been to keep olive the remem- brances of our glorious high school doys. As for os hos been possible, the Staff hos tried to insert mony, mony nomes ond items of lasting interest between these covers of royol purple Truly hoping that this gool hos been accomplished, the Yearbook Staff presents with pride their efforts — the 1952 annual. Sincerely, VIRGINIA HUMBER, Editor-in-Chief JOHN ROGERS Business Monager — 15- OLIVE B. MacPHERSON Advisor

Plans for the Yearbook were storied in the Foil ond truly did not end until Moy. Many, many hours were spent in compiling, checking, ond rechccking doto, posting glossies, taking candids , photographing the organizations, sketching the cuts for the Book and planning the layout. Dick Skeffington received a letter for basketball; John McDonnell, for hockey; Hal O'Brien for track. Joan Crockett was the winner of the Annuol Spelling Bee. With Robert Brown, Doro Vigoroso, Audrey Peterson, and Richard Mangan on our Sophomore Executive Committee, we couldn't help but leod the woy. As spirited Juniors, '52 continued to be o credit to S. H. S. 8orbora Reid's mognificcnt dancing enabled her to join the famed Rockcttcs for the summer. Sharing the limelight n basketball were Dick Skeffington, Worren Cooper, and Bcb Fasciano; in football, hord-hitting Dick Boldacci, Ed Reovis, ond Bill Buchan; while John McDonald, Bob Brown, and Dick Hen- shaw helped leod the bosketboll team to the State Championship. Due to the cooperation of our Junior Night Committee, Margery Whelan, Esther Foster, Anthony Kounelos. Anthony Pocoro, and Nicholos Kilodis, our Prom wos o success. The Sophomore Executive Committee wos re-elected os our Junior Closs Officers. Virginia Humber was winner of the Annual Spelling Bee. Competing with seniors from other high schools in Greater Boston, Mary Drougas piaced first in the Red Feather Oratorical contest. Our football seoson wos highlighted by our boys, led by Co-Coptoins Ed Reovis ond Bill Buchon, who showed greot spirit ond sportsmonship. Three Seniors who lent their talents to the track tcorn were Dick Gongi, John Mclnernoy, and Bob Swan. The basketball team led by Captain Dick Skeffington had o very successful year, ond because of their fine work, were invited to the Tech Tourney for the thirteenth time. Our greot spirited team went through to the finals of the Tech ond were defeated by a hord fighting Durfcc tcom. Dick Skeffington ond Richard Hcnshow were selected for the Greater Boston all-star team. The other outstanding players from the Senior Closs were Warren Cooper, Bob Fosciono, Bob Roymond, Ed Moyer, George Price, Leo Morino, and Cosmo Capo- bianco. With the aid of tnis group we prepared for our big night. May 28. Soft light, shimmering stardust, fine music, and laughing couples mode up our last big social. The committee we selected to prepore for Class Doy was composed of Rachel Ferrari, Irene Kacomburos, Cosmo Copobionco, and Nick Marinokis. Then come the big day, June 6, 1952, a day which will live on for many o year in the hearts of all of us. The girls dressed in white, the boys in their best suits, and all with our purple ond white cops made o hoppy spectacle os we morched into the ouditorium for the last time. On Graduation Night, the final meeting of the Class of '52 wos held ot Tufts Ovol. Here we were presented with our diplomos which symbolized the end of our high school days. — 16 —
