1 Having outgrown its first building, in 1872, the school moved into the building loter known os the Somerville Lotiri School. 8ecouse enrollment continued to increase rapidly, the Somerville English High School was built in 1895 When Mr. Boxtcr resigned, the two schools were united making one Somerville High School. In 1912 the enrollment increased to approximately 2,000, and three years later Junior High Schools were built Then the Senior High School was changed to a three year school. A plan wos odopted in 1927 for the enlargement and improvement of the school ond for the oddition of o gym. This work was completed in 1930 at an expenditure of $1,000,000. Since then our school has strived to mointain its high stondord of Honor ond Progress. Moy it continue to do so in the future and hold the honored place it has attained.

At thot time, sixty-thrcc pupils were odmitted to the school in comparison to the more than 2600 who now enter our high school doily. On May 3, 1852, two teachers conducted the first session in Somerville Free High School The hcadmostcr then wos Robert Bickford. His excellent record has been upheld by such men as Leonard Wolkcr, Somuel Pike, Isoac Beols, Henry Babcock, George Boxter, Charles Whit comb, John Avery, Horry Sears, and of course, our present headmaster, Albert Giroux.
