HURD, JUNE, 1948 For twelve yeors o teacher of English ot Somerville High School, Dr. Hurd wos o graduate of Radcliffe College, Portio Law School, ond received the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence from Yole University. A practicing attorney and o Icoder in civic and profes- sional affairs, she served on the School Committee from 1932 to 1941, being chairman in 1937. In 1943 she was elected to the Boord of Aldermen ond wos still a member, highly regarded os o gracious ond distinguished lody of great gentleness. MISS NETTIE V. EASTMAN, SEPTEMBER, 1948 Teacher of chemistry ot Somerville High School for twenty-three years. Miss Eastman was o graduote of Sim- mons College. Quietly, she went obout appointed tasks; no fret, complaints or criticism, o high standard set — to teach her subject well. MISS MARGARET A. BROWN, FEBRUARY, 1949 Closed life's debit side. Bright Heaven's ledger opens wide to greet her name. Our loss, its goin. Farewell. Head of the Commercial Course for five short months. Miss Brown endeared herself to students and foculty alike. A graduate of Boston University with a Mostcr's degree, she become o teocher at our school in 1934. After a brief illness, she possed owoy, Icoving a heritage of cheerful friendliness ond quiet efficiency os an example to those who knew her. MR. FRANCIS J. MAHONEY, MARCH, 1949 The Director of the Somerville Recreation Commission, Mr. Mohoney was a teacher of history ot Somerville High School from 1924 to 1930. He was a graduate of Boston College with the closs of 1916. We sholl always remem- ber him as a man of vigor and energetic earnestness.
