According to tradition, on Closs Day at nine o'clock the seniors and their guests ossemble in Cloyton Ellis Holl to hear the Valedictorian and Solutotorian give their oddresses, to hcor the Closs Poem, to present the doss gift to the school, and to sing the closs ode. Outside on the campus, the ivy is planted ond the closs colors arc presented to the incoming closs. After the formal program of Class Day, seniors spend their time auto- graphing the books, taking pictures of their friends, all the while trying to suppress the sort of lonely feeling that comes with good-bye to school days.

The countless things you've tought us And helped us understand Our hearts shall ne'er forget. 'Twas 'neath thy guiding hand We learned to focc with courage The waiting world beyond. Your motto, ''Honor and Progress Will linger with us long. The music was written by Corol Johnson, '49 Class Pukiii Virginia Rood, '49 To thee, oh Almo Motcr, we sing our sad farewell. As we depart forever, no more to hear your bell. We dream of all the joyous hours we've spent within your walls. Where many laughing voices echoed through your halls. We will olwoys think of hoppy times we had when we were here. And then regret, os we do now, the ending of the year. When graduation comes for us and cops and gowns are donned. You'll help us to appreciate the waiting world beyond. Like shodows cost by sunshine upon some ancient diol. Your spirit will fall on us to make our lives worthwhile. And so we want to tell you now, os on our way we start. You'll alwoys hold a tender place in each and every heart.
