Yes, graduation is here ot lost. Those of us who were most anxious for June and graduation ore now the ones shedding the most teors. The Staff has spent many long hours in planning and preparing this Yearbook. Work began lost June, when we met and discussed ways of making this the best ever pub- lished. We thought of revolutionizing the book entirely, but that would be impossible if we were to stay within the means of our budget. Several loyouts different from the customary one were deboted, and finolly we decided on on inverted T . Next, — the cover. It would hove to be padded, and red, — bright red. Where was the money coming from for this added expense? Well, where there's a will, there's a woy. We hove the red padded cover, and what is more, on embossed plate to add to its beauty. The most difficult port was yet to come. Work. We had to gather Senior pictures, doto, and then assemble it; this meant hours of work, long hours after school and during vocation. Here it is! We hope you like it, ond since is was primarily designed to serve os a pleasant reminder of our happy high school days, we know that it will do just that. We wonder what the future holds for us, yet we do not know, but behind us we leave fond wishes for a successful, ond even better, — a happy future for each of our classmates. MacPHERSON Yearbook Adviser Senior C_ (a$5 Jfistoi V The year 1945 may be forgotten by many, but not by the Class of '48 for that was the year we entered S. H. S. To glonce ot us, one could easily see that we felt quite im- portant but looked exceptionally owkword. However, after a few weeks of bewilderment we slowly adjusted ourselves to the new surroundings. As the yeor progressed we were proud of the members of our closs who excelled in scholarship ond athletics. The Executive Committee was: Richard Tacelli, Frank Simas, Ann Bruno, Joon Gillis. Now with a year of experience behind us we all looked forward to our Junior Year with great anticipation. The Fall of 1946 sow us alert ond octive, taking o firmer stand since that first September doy of 1945. This was a year of memoroble events with members of our class participating in activities such os Portia, Webster, musical groups, Rodiotor and all kinds of sports. We were proud of those who were admitted to the National Honor Society for their out- standing scholarship, leadership, and service. A great deal of credit is due to those fellows who plugged hard for the Tech Tourney title, for win or lose Somerville High came out on top for their unexcelled sportsmanship. With the coming of Spring our gym on April 24th wos magically transformed into a land of red and white condymen and canes. It was none other than our Junior Prom. This was all expertly handled by our Junior Night Committee. That memoroble evening saw petite blue- eyed June Snyder crowned queen of our prom and with her, our tall, handsome king, Froncis McCarthy. This yeor the class was well represented by its officers: President, Al Gounaris; Vice President, Ann Bruno; Secretary, Joan Gillis; Treasurer, Tim Dempsey. Senior t ear Now at lost the year had come when we could proudly boost of being “Seniors. This year saw mony of our fellow clossmates enact the never to be forgotten ploy The Song of Bernadette. Special credit is due our basketboll team for their wonderful display of skill which en- abled them to be chosen os competitors in the Tech Tourney. This year sow our class led by: President, Aubrey Morrison; Vice-President, Ann Bruno; Secretary, Joan Gillis; Treasurer, Tim Dempsey. Finally arrived the night, our memoroble Senior Prom. Our gym wos once more aglow in red and white. It was a night to be remembered with soft music and a dreomy atmosphere. The Senior Night Committee with Hugo Vigoroso chairman and his able assistants deserve a great deal of credit. The Class Day Committee with Jean Gillespie, Ethel Webb, Connie Albanese, Robert Wagner, and Alvah Chisholm worked endlessly to make our lost step toward graduation un- forgettable. However the most important doy in our high school life wos yet to come. The night of June 8th, our graduation. We left behind S.H.S. and started out into a world filled with new adventures ond friends. It was a night of somberness as each member filed slowly to receive his diploma ond finolly to close with the closs song. For although we hove left, We shall never forget, The grand old days —At S. A few of the Juniors on our footboll team ore Som Pino, Norman Mack, John Karageorges, Joe O'Collohan, Al Libby, Donald Fraser, Richard Wolf, and Emerson Corley. On our basketball team we hove Leo Cronin, John Sussengerger, Joe O'Collohan, Louis De Simone, Jackie Peck, ond many others. We are well represented in other extra-curricular organizations such as Glee Club, Portia, ond Players' Club. A few Juniors helped to moke the presentation of Song of Bernadette an outstanding success. Sophomores of the Class of 1950, entered the shodeless rooms of Somerville High School. In spite of our nervousness and bewilderment, caused by the confusing corridors and strange faces, we gradually adjusted ourselves to the new system ond halls of our educational home. Through the able guidance and co-operation of our Faculty and Juniors ond Seniors, we no longer wander hesitantly, but poss confidently through its gates of learning. There is keen joy in the accomplishments we hove fulfilled, and we desire to maintain a well merited reputation of loyalty, perseverance, and honor in the yeors to come. The Sophomores deserve commendation on their tremendous advancement in scholar- ship, in the representation of thirty-nine pupils on moximum credit, and one-hundred seventy eight pupils on credit for the first two quarters. This class elected os their representatives on the Sophomore Executive Committee, Eleanor Dobson, Frances Rosselli, Albert Giroux, and Charles Westcott. The Players' Club had ten active Sophomores. The Debating teams, both Webster and Portia, hod twelve Sophomore members, many of whom have proven their orotoricol ability. Jean Allonby, Room 302, was the winner of the annual Spelling Bee. Sophomores had their share of stars in sports with Ronald Perry, highlight in basketball, and Robert Hickey, Ralph DiFurria, sharing the spotlight in football. In hockey, there was Robert Hickey. In baseball, we had Robert Hickey, Ronald Perry, and John Nunzioto; ond Raymond DeVoe, the only Sophomore on the Track Team. The Girls' Glee Club had forty-seven sophomore members, among whom were: Dorothy Andrade, Jeon Fitzpatrick, Mory Macera, Evelyn Thompson, Esther McEvoy, Jane Forrington, and Dancer Jean Coolidge. Horold Berlak, Charles Westcott, Roymond Davis, and Veterans Eorl Hinckley and Rolph Cossale were outstanding in the Boys' Glee Club. Our class was represented by sixty-five members in the G. A. A. Prominent girls in sports were Joon Hickey, Jean Dionne, ond Ann Ciano. The representative to the Executive Board was Joan Hickey. Together, os a unit, we hove strived to the utmost, to establish a strong foundation, so that we may uphold the stondords of honor ond attainment, as we turn the wheels of progress and journey toward the goo I of success.
