Senior Class History Studying wos intense but most sophomores found time to toke- port in pleosont activities the first year. In the ranks of Webster, Portia, Players' Club, and the Radiator were found many of our clossmotes. For the musically inclined, Somerville High offered the Glee Club, Band, Orchestra, and Symphony Guild. Class elections were held in April. Donold Wagner, Louise Nosson, Helen Churchey ond James DiMoggio made up the Sophomore Executive Committee. In September, 'forty-five. Junior year came into view. And, os some undoubtedly have quessed. The sophomores we decried, as we strolled, with lordly pride, Throuqh the now familiar holls of S. H. S. And did we lord it over the poor sophomores! For after all, weren't we the old timers with a year's experience behind us? As juniors we kept up our good record in the clubs and societies of the school, nor did we forsake the field of sports. Several members of our class were prominent in athletics. In fact they competed in the Tech Tournament. Class officers were elected ogoin and the results showed that Donald Wagner wos presi- dent; Louise Nosson, vice-president; Lorraine Lima, secretary; James Karangioze, treasurer. Our Junior Prom on April 25 wos a qreot success. At last September, 'forty-six, the finol year for you ond me. On our school life the curtoin soon would fall. As seniors now on top, we made the sophomores hop. The juniors answered to our beck ond call. Yes, os Seniors we had reoched the final gool. We were the undisputed leaders of the school in both academic and athletic interests. Speciol credit should be given to our basketball team, standouts in the Tech Tourney, ond one of the best combinations from o school noted for its hoopmen. In December, elections were held ond the results showed that we were either in a rut or in the groove, for Don, Louise, Lorraine ond Jimmy were re-elected. Then Senior Night! A fairyland of soft lights, dreamy music, and Cinderella doncing with her ideol, so soon gone but so long remembered. It was truly a night of nights. All good things must come to on end, however, ond os Class Day drew near we begon to reolize, perhaps the first time, that we were soon to leave our Alma Mater. That day wos indeed a vivid spectocle, the girls' white dresses, the class colors, and the air of friendli- ness os the hall echoed with our class song and the traditional cheers for the faculty. On Graduation Night, our lost meeting os a closs, we were presented with our diplomas, the svmbnl of o job well done. As we marched back to our places at Tufts Oval, diploma in hand, we were struck by a sense of completeness, a feeling of having spent three years in Somerville High that were, well—really wonderful! So goodbye and thanks, S. H S., from the ever grateful Closs of '47. «I Lorraine Limo, '47

Class Poem By Dorothy Gillis, '47 In the beginning there was peace and quiet in the down; Then man made great improvements — and now all peace is gone. And so the heritage of youth lies on the debit side; The ideals consecrated noble, cynics now deride. This granted lease on living bestows so short a spon. So brief a time to scrutinize the moving caravan; And once the light has flickered and shadow claims the hall. The drama is forgotten — lost to one and all. So by what futile promise does rash youth search for fame; Are ashes cold revived by the glory of o name; Or did the sun glint brighter on Croesus' tainted gold Than on the olms that He gave to beggor-mon of old? Thus Mammon's choicest palms ore flaunted high by lustful fools To those who bow in servile awe to hollow-sceptered rules. Of might and its rank folly, making mankind o pown. Who seeks through nights of wistful dreams the quiet of the dawn.
