According to head coach jerry Moore, the mental errors in the beginning offset the team as a result of a few losses. But of course, the Ville pulled through and won the last few games in- cluding our exciting Thanksgiving game against rivals, 'iThe Boro . Other rivals defeated by the Ville were Franklin and Bridgewater West. Coach Moore remarked, uThese young men met with diversity and then beat it. Seniors Keven Sferra and Tom Tiner were consistent throughout the season. As a result of dedicated off-season training, these boys improved a great deal. We also, can not forget Steve Holloway's many touchdowns. Steve made the Group l, Second team and the Group ll first team as did leff Nunamacher and Bill Dubiel. Although this was the first time in eight years that the Ville missed the state play-offs, Coach Moore is determined and assured that the team will be back in '83. 108 x i fl john Dowling starts the game with a kick. Coach Petrill feels strongly that the team has greatly improved since they bagan this season, victory against Franklin and East con- firmed this. According to Coach Robert Colavita, the boys' best game was their win over Franklin in the Somerset County Tournament giving jim Lawson a 300 shutout, thus meeting their goal of making the Semi Finals. Despite joel johnson's arm in- jury, the team never gave up and maintained an excellent attitude. The rest of the team gained much need improvement and will be back next year to play 500 baseball. Sophomores Skip Fuller and Larry Ussia have proven themselves to be valuable potential var- sity players. Although it was not their best year, they had their highlights. Qi an :ILCIRII The Golf Team during a break at Fox Hollow. .ik f email Teeing off to a hole in one. Lining up a tough shot. During the 1982 golf season, coached by Mr. Tom Trelease, there was a notable improvement over the previous season. The team was up against many challenging teams such as: Watchung Hills, Bridgewater East and West, Hillsborough, Piscataway and many others, ending their season with 6 wins and 10 loses. This achievement was reached through the excellent playing of Steve Carr, Corey Bonnell, and Maura Waters. The 1982 season should be another promising one through con- tinued excellence from seniors: Maura Waters and Corey Bonnell, juniors: Lisa Hannin, Tom McManus, Steve Hickson, Bill Sigler, Scott Saymen, and Mike Sweer, and Sophomores: loe Carballal and Bob Loss, 197 Mg Fair Ladg The house was packed on March Sth and 6th forthe S.H.S. production of Lerner and Loevve's My Fair Lady starring Karen Paxson as Eliza Doolittle and Andy Gorman as Professor Hig- gins. Corey Bonnell was impressive as Colonel Pickering and Allan Zuckerman almost stole the show as Alfred P. Doolittle. lim Fancher played Freddy Eynsford-Hill. The play was directed by Miss Susan Daley while the musical direction was provided by Mr. Richard Coulter and Miss Cindy Fisher. Mr. Stewart Schenck provided set direction. The committee plan- ned for months and then right before the event their advisor left Somerville High School. Undaunted, they carried on with their new advisor, Miss Betsy Martin. Their hardwork paid off with a very successful prom. Highlighting the evening was the crowning of the King and Queen of the Prom and their court of attendants. The King selected was lim Hughes, The Queen was Kim Cornell and her atten- dants were Genia Carr, Kathie Rigante and jackie Stafford. A good time was had by all who attended. King Iames and Queen Kim Prom fare-wells. Front Row: Ted Pilaledes, Noel O'Campo, Allan Tullar, Gemma Velton. Back Row: Doug Reinhart, Sue Hayes, Robert Phillips, Dave Parks, Melissa Keissler, Mike Engerud, Mr. lames Durland. The 1982 Somerville High School Tournament of Excellence Team had an excellent year. The team, coached by Mr. lames Durland, was undefeated, beating arch-rival Rutgers Prep in the finals for the championship. The money the team won was us- ed to create scholarships and awards for graduating seniors. Next year, Mr. Durland and the team hope to repeat this suc- cess in both the Tournament of Excellence and the newly form- ed Somerset County Academic League. J, l 20 ,- 1982 Graduation The 1982 Graduation brought tears as well as smiles as the Senior class walked out on the field for one last time. After days of practice in the hot sun, the time had finally come to get the long awaited diploma. It was with smiles that the graduates received their award for four years successfully completed but it was also with tears that they were accepted. The graduates cried because they knew they were climbing another stair in the story of their lives and would be leaving something familiar behind. 2 wi f t ' -M .'...: - 5- 64 .3 A ny, f -. People ATB Dying: - 15 to 20 million people die ot hunger and starvation each year. - 41,000 people die each dayg 28 people every minute, 21 of them children. 2. They Don't Have To. - We now produce enough food to feed nearly twice the population of our planet. - There are solutions that exist. Hunger has ended in 53 countries Q35 since World War Ill. 3. You Can Make the Difference. - Experts say that hunger can be ended by the end of the century. The key missing ingredient is the worldwide commitment to get the iob done. That commitment begins with you. You have the power to make the end of hunger and starvation an idea whose time has come.
