Well we all fall in love But we disregard the danger Though we share so many secrets There are some we never tell. Why were you so surprised That you never saw the stranger. Did you ever let your lover see The stranger in yourself? Don't be afraid to try again Everyone goes south. Every now and then You've done it, why can't someone else? You should know by now You've been there yourself. Once I used to believe I was such a great romancer Then I came home to a woman . I.- , ' I 'M-N-.Wy--W..- That I could not recognize. Among its many achievements is a Mid-State Conference Champion- ship, and the Somerset County Championship. Although plagued by injuries to many starters over the course of the season, this team will be remembered as one of the finest basketball squads in Somerville history. Brian Buckelew and Wayne Brown as co-captains led the team offensively and defensively. Buckelew averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. Brown averaged 12 points per game and expertly defended against some of the top scoring opponents in the state. SomervilIe's man to man pressure defense was one of the best defenses in the area. Somerville won the Central Jersey Group Ill Champion- ship by defeating Manalapan 80-71. They lost to Mainland Regional in the semi-finals of the state tournament by a 55- 53 score concluding with an outstanding record of 25-4. 90 A5 BOYS' JV BASKETBALL Front: Chris Balsino, Todd Vandervoort, Phil Forman, Whitney Saunders, Terry Noble, Todd Duffy. This signifies the very successful season that they had. Stephen Holloway led the scoring with a 29 point game against South Plainfield while Sherman Proctor was the all around player in rebounding, average points and defen- sive play. Another player who did just as good all around was Chris Preston. With games like this squad had, many will be seen playing on the varsity level next year. First Carol Axmann breaks 1000 points, a feat that is rarely reached. Then they win the Mid-State Conference and become Somerset County Champs. The Girls' Varsity Basketball team ended its regular season with an 18-3 record going into the state tourney play. Led by Carol Axmann with the help of Carola Plumhoff and Shawn Darby's outside shooting, the team has done an excellent job. Kim Griffin's and Syable Fair's inside the game scoring and rebounding only served to highlight more good play. There are many friends along with memories to be gained and lost throughout their years here and with each new experience the Juniors become more aware of the world around them, and find their own identity. As Juniors some of them begin to look at col- leges. They are maturing and soon will be taking a new step on the ladder of life. This is the first year that they are upper-classmen and they are proving that they can shoulder the responsibili- ty. They are driving, going out, and turning their class rings for luck. The Junior Varsity baseball season was not a disappointment with their 8-9 record, however the new coach Mr. Mech, feels there is still room for improvement. Jim Lawson, a transfer student from Franklin, was the team's main pitcher. With the help of Todd Vandervort in centerfield having a .380 batting average and Phil Forman at shortstop, he pitched his best game, a three hitter against North Plainfield. The chorus consisted of seventeen members who were also chosen carefully for their parts. The entire cast and chorus started their practicing many weeks in advance learning their lines and getting them perfect. A lot of hard work was also put into the production of the play by the backstage helpers.
