The i956 Thanksgiving Day dinner was enjoyed by all this year when the traditional Bound Brook game ended in a tie. Although having only a mediocre record the Pioneers managed to break one jinx that had lasted for two years. This was the mastery that Hamilton held over the Somerville team, For the first time since the beginning of the series in l954, the S.H.S. boys won. The pitching staff was thus plagued by overwork on several occasions. Pioneer cindermen registered only three wins in eight dual outings-the victories be- ing over South River, St. Peter's, and Ber- nardsville. ln county competition the locals placed third in the county meet and fourth in the county relays. State champion high jump- er, Ronnie Sholes, copped both the county and Central Jersey titles in preparation for the defense of his state crown at Rutgers. Miler, Bob Ashton, won easily the county champion- ship and faired well in the sectional and state meets. 14 Girls' thletic ssociation Shadows on Shipboardn was the theme of the annual A.A. Show pre- sented to the public on April 26, l957.
