Wddmd We, the members of the Class of 1957 of Somerset High School, city of Somerset, Indiana, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament, hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by us. I, Violet Bolen, will my Shamrock Queen title ot Mary Hannah Minnick, my small hands to Kenny Miller, and my blond hair to Margaret Johnson. I, Cary Bowman, will my ability to get out of the study hall to work on the paper to Max Pitts, my parking place in front of the school to the person who gets there first, and my position on the basketball team to Kenny Miller. I, Jim Chapman, will my ability to stay out of trouble to Danny Hayes, my ability to sleep in the study hall to anybody that can use it, and my Civics and Health books to Jerry Olinger. I, Bertha Collins, will my seat on the bus to Judy Jacobs, my ability to get good grades to Don Surbey, and my Civics book to Jerry Olingerg may he use it more than I did. I, David Downey, will my ability to get out of study hall to anyone who cannot find a legitimate excuse, my ping pong ability to Margaret Johnson, and height to Max Pitts. I, Dick Dragstrem, will my juvenile delinquency to Kenny Miller, and my ability to hate geometry to Danny Hayes. I, Kenny Easterday, will my position as sports editor to anyone lucky enough to get it, and my ability to get out of the study halls to anyone whois able to get away with it. I, Nancy Emrick, will my bass clarinet to Don Surbey, my dark, naturally straight hair to Judy Jacobs, and my position on the staff of Trail Echoes to Margaret John- son. I, Steve Harrison, will my ability to get out of study hall to Danny Hayes, my ability to get along with teachers to Max Pitts, and my basketball ability to Don Surbey. I, William Owen Harvey, will my seat in the study hall to any cotton picker that gets there first, my parking space to Max Pitts, and my Civics book to Mary Hannah Minnick. I, Jeanette Highley, will my seat in the Journalism Room to Joyce Stout, my Chemis- try book and all memories of Chemistry to Bob Davenport, and my position as seventh period office worker to Judy Jacobs, may her days not be as hectic as mine. I, Martha Huddleston, will my Civics book to Jim Ball, my ability to avoid trouble to Danny Hayes, and shorthand ability to Sybelle Archer. I, Thomas Jones, will my place on the paper staff, to Jerry Olinger, my Chemistry book to any fool who likes it next year, and my parking space to Mike Weimer or whoever needs it. I, Linda Lorenz, will my position of drum majorette to Sybelle Archer, my ability to win medals at solo contest to Jim Ball, and my well-worn Chemistry book to Don Surbey. I, Sharon Miller, will the lunch room to any of the juniors who want it, my ability to stay out of trouble to Danny Hayes, and my Health book to Margaret Johnson. I, Phyllis Peebles, will my editorship of the yearbook to Don Surbey, my tenor sax and accordion to Max Pitts, and special seat in Room 26 to Darrell Wolfrum. I, Eugene Robinson, will my '49 Chevy driving ability to Jerry Olinger, my first trom- bone playing ability to Mary Minnick, and my seat in the study hall to Don Surbey. I, Pete Schaaf, will my dead eye for shooting rabbits to Dan Hayes, my tall fish tales to Mr. Marley, and my Civics book to Max Pitts. I, Elmer Shoemaker, will to Max Pitts, my ability to wreck cars, my ability to get in and out of trouble to Charles Davis, and my unused Civics book to Danny Hayes, may he never read it. I, Janet Shroyer, will my saxophone to Max Pitts, my' position as pianist of the chorus to Mary Hannah Minnick, and my ability to get His in citizenship to Danny Hayes. I, Charles Southwick, will my place on the basketball team to Mary Hannah, my ability to stay out of trouble to Judy Jacobs, and my Civics book to anyone that can handle it. I, David Stout, will my Civics book to my sister because she will get it anyway, my place on the basketball bench to Bob Davenport, may he keep it warmer than I did, and my first chair in band to Judy Jacobs.

The class of 3.57 entered the first grade in 1945 with Miss Carma Deal as our teacher. During the last half of our year Nancy Emrick joined our group. ln the second grade, we were taught by Mrs. Paul Peebles, and Kenney Easterday came to Somerset. Dick Dragstrem left us in the third grade when Mrs. Ruth Highley was our teacher. Two members of our class joined the band in the fourth grade. They were Linda Lorenz and Eugene Robinson. Our teacher was Mrs. Lillian Harvey. ln the fifth grade Elmer Shoemaker joined us. and Mr. Merritt Waymire was our teacher. David Stout joined the band during this year. Dick rejoined us in the sixth grade. when we had Mr. liay Sumpter as our teacher. ln the seventh grade we elected our first class officers. They were Cary Bowman. prcsidentg Phyllis Peebles, vice president, and Jeanette llighlcy. secretary and treasurer. Sharon Miller became one of our classmates. ln our eighth year Gary was again president, Janet Shroy- er was vice president. Linda was secretary and treasurer, and Phyllis was assistant secretary and treasurer. As freslnnen we had 213 class members and Mrs. Portia Haupert was our sponsor. We were the last class to be initi- ated by the juniors. and we had the honor of having Nancy elected cheerleader. Kenney was president, Phyllis, vice pres- ident. and Linda was secretary and treasurer. Mr. Richard Corlc was our sophomore sponsor, Phyllis our president. Charles Southwick our vice president, Nancy our secretary and treasurer, and Tommy Jones our assistant Sl'l'I'l5lilfy llllll ll't'ilSUl't'I'. Linda. Nancy. and Tommy were elected cheerleaders our junior year. Pete Schaaf joined our class in the middle of the year. Mr. Robert Shepherd was our sponsor, and we had charge of the concession stand. Phyllis was our presi- dent. Tonnny our vice president, Linda, secretary, and Janet, treasurer. I ' . Finally we were seniors with Gary as our president, Phyllis, vice president, Jeanette, secretary, and David Downey, treas- urer. We had two members of our class elected most popular boy and girl, Gary Bowman and Violet Bolen. Violet was also Shamrock Queen. Janet was honored by being one of our cheerleaders during her senior year. We have 14 charter members: Cary Bowman, Bertha Collins, David Downey, Steve Harrison, Owen Harvey, Jeanette Highley, Martha Huddleston, Tommy Jones, Linda Lorenz, Phyllis Peebles, Y ll In D Eugene Robinson, Janet Shroyer, Charles Southwick, and Dave Stout. There is a total of 22 class members. Our senior play, Going Places, was well received. ln our junior year, our play had been cancelled after the tragic death of Jim Minnick shortly before its presentation. We were privileged to take a senior trip through the east- ern part of the United States in the spring of 1957.
