With eleven seniors playing together for their fourth year, the team placed second in the Southeastern Massachusetts Conference Division 1 League. The girls then went on to the state tourna¬ ment seeded tenth. The Raiders defeated seventh seeded Duxbury and second seeded Canton (1-0) before losing to Walpole (2-1) in the semi-finals. The 12-4-2 conference record was highlighted by victories over Dartmouth, Durfee, Case, and Stang. The Raiders led by Tri-captains: Diane Bernardo, Kathy Mendes, and Lisa Geary, and coached by Sue Curt, went farther than any team In the past five years. Diane Bernardo, a second year Herald allstar and a member of the Boston Globe allstar team, led the offense of the mighty Blue Raiders and was the league’s leading scorer with 16 goals. While on the defensive end, Tracey Kerrigan had an allstar sea¬ son. In goal, Kathy Mendes posted 7 shutouts. Karen Gray tyeasuf, 0 ??te uteA, “S vuuvuta 86 « 87 The 1987 Cross Country Season went well for us. We pulled the team together rather quickly considering most of the members were novice runners. A few of the high points of the season are as follows: Freshman boy’s win at the Seekonk Invitational, excellent performance at our Conference Meet, and the overall win at Coyle Cassidy. The cap¬ tains for this year were Pat Lockett, Held1 Thompson, and Dave Sullivan. All of our se¬ nior members were dependable In helping with the leadership of the team. The newly elected senior captains for 1988, Kerry Fitz¬ simmons and Thad Burgmeyer. Junior cap¬ tains are 2 runners of the season, Kyle Howard and Michelle Belander. This was the first tournament appearance in ten years. Unfortunately, the Raiders were defeated by Rockland. Matt White led the team in scoring and set a school record of 11 goals this season along with four goals in one game. Al¬ though we must say it was disheartening, we will never regret playing this season. Not many people realize how hard it was trying when the odds were so greatly against us. That was often the case when we would practice as hard as we could while being plagued with in¬ juries. Throughout the sea¬ son the team had to ignore predictions against us and keep working with the thought that we could win. The seniors who will never play again can always think back to how hard we all tried. None of us walked off the field on Thanksgiving Day with any regrets. N.K. Because of you, the team, we were able to finish our last year in gymnastics with smiles on our faces. Because this team was a “team ” and not just a group of individuals, we are sorry to see it end. We would especial¬ ly like to thank Bill Barnicoat and Mike Leonard for being not only coaches but our friends through our four years in high school. Our class has done a lot to make our years great ones. Everything from the New York trip to the semi-formal dance has been a great success. Most importantly was our domination of the case rally. No one will forget how we came from a last place in junior year to an uncontested first in ’87. Of course, this type of success does not come without hard work. My thanks go out to our diligent officers: Diane Ber¬ nardo, Karen Gray, Gia Anselmo, and Kristen Zagorski. These ladies did a great job. All of should be thankful to the hardest worker of all. Day. His efforts were endless and without much reward. This excludes, of course, the baked stuffed lobster Sorem paid for after we beat the juniors in the rally. After graduation, when the celebrations begin, it will be good to know that we will be celebrating not only our success but our four years of good times and fun. Although we put a lot of work into the yearbook, we would have never completed it without the help of Mr. LaMothe, our advisor. We would also like to thank Joe and Gary Geoffroy from Chestnut Hill Studios and Norval Garnett from Jostens for all of their assistance. Our thanks also to Kristen Vincent and Kelly Jones for all of their help and hard work. As the school year draws to a close and graduation nears, we would like to wish the best of luck to all of the members of the class of 1988 and to the juniors, sophmores, and freshmen. We hope that your high school years will be as memorable as ours have been. 140 Kg
