That is a good start for your football team. How many more do you have now? Walter and I just returned from our vacation. We saw many of our classmates and I thought you would be interested in knowing about each of them. The first motel we stayed in was operated by Donald Todd. While there, Donald took us to visit the famous mental institute managed by Hollis Flynn. We were greeted by Shirley Yancy, the head nurse. who was leading Jim Brown to his cell. 1 understand that he went to pieces trying to prove Lugan's theory. That night while eating, we saw Wayne Smith and Janice Withers, who are now married and manage the Krogers store. Janice talked about Wanda Loveless, Dick and her six boys, and about having seen Marjorie Gregory who has advanced from crocheting doll clothes to designing baby clothes. Geraldine Miller, who is now married, is one of Marjorie's steady customers. When paying our bill, we were suprised to find Donald Linville and Nellie as owners On the way back to the motel we stopped at a Gulf station owned by Joe Massey and Wife, the former Cloyce Harmon. After a day's travel our stop was in Washington, D. C. Bill Jones greeted us at the Capitol. He informed us that he was such a strong Republican candidate for President the Democrats were afraid to oppose him. His private secretary is Wiladene Dick. Outside the Capitol we saw Barbara Holton Maguire. She extended to us an invitation to visit Admiral Maguire at the Navel Academy At one of the famous fashion shops we met Madam Jean- ette Sears, whois prospering in the business. While I spent the afternoon with Carolyn and Frank Strunk and their three boys, Walter went to see the Washington Senators play. I believe he said Gordon Shadoan was the shortstop on that team. After we left Annapolis, we went to New York. Remember Dickie Baker, the talented musician? He was giving a concert in Carnegie Hall that week. Harold Corder is the head percussionist with the New York Philharmonic, and Peggy Starkey is pianist. While taking a tour of the Empire State Building, we met Mike Bourne. He is now President of an insurance company and has an office in this building. A visit to Radio City renewed our aquaintance with Richard Baugh. He is an announcer over NBC and specializes in sport events. The star of a television show that we saw was Jolin Coffey. Ibelieve the show was Ding-Dong School. The New York Times has a new editor, Barbara Biers. When We were visiting her, she talked about the many times her machines had to be repaired. Sammy Joe Allen was the man called to repair them. It sounds fishy to mel The few days we spent in Canada were filled with rumors of three mounted police, Jerry Taylor, George Adams and Ralph Snyder, who had rescued an expedition party from a landslide. Our trip through the Black Hills was lovely. We visited with Edward Adams and Phyllis Lair, the owners of a beautiful fishing camp located on a mountain lake.We spent a few days on a ranch in Montana. There Sue Crawford was our hostess. Some of the men working for Sue are Paul Newell, John Een, Robert Marcum and Melvin Early. Margaret, you remember how Frankie Waddle and June Fitzgerald always stayed together? Well, they couldn't be separated, so they went to Salt Lake City and married a Mormon. In California, Wayne Moore has taken Arthur Murray's place in the dance world. He is trying to teach Parkie Denny, Gerald Phelps, and Jane McKinney how to jitter-bug. They are hoping to get a part in a movie with Fred Astair. Oh! Imeant to tell you, Edward Strunk now holds the light-weight championship title. Now back to California. Peggy Woodall and Elmer are in San Francisco. We ate dinner with them one night and Peggy seems to be having no trouble frying potatoes. Driving through New Mexico we stopped at Glorietta where the Baptist Camp is located. Jack Murphy was the guest speaker that week. He and Ann Wilson are waiting for the final notice to go as missionaries to Africa. Jack told me that Pat Jasper has his M. D. and is also waiting to go. I have never seen so many oil fields as there are in Texas. Ben Mattingly seems to have his share in them. Clyde Kelly's bank was falling apart until Ben deposited his money with him. Barbara Rutherford is Ben's private secretary. I believe there is more than just business between them. In NeW Orleans we found Betty Claunch, Linda Baugh, Gilberta Bullock, Helen Turner, and Drucella Perdue, and all their husbands. They have a summer camp down on the gulf. Doesn't that sound exciting? Of course, our trip could not be complete Without going to Florida. The first large city was Pensacola. You know there is a Navy base there and whom should we meet but Bobby Massey, Sam Bogle, and Ronnie Wilson. They are making the Navy their career. Jane Sutherland and her husband have a beautiful colonial home outside Tallahasse. She hired Kaye Correll to teach her only daughter home economics. From Atlanta we flew to Lexington. To our surprise our hostess was Phyllis Tucker and the pilot was Earl Prather. Before leaving Lexington we visited Calumet Horse Farm. Ralph Muse is now owner and one of his horses Won last year's Derby. The jockey of the horse was James Dykes. Ralph talked about Freida Dishman a lot. Do you think that they might have been dating? Getting back home after a long vacation we found quite a few changes, especially in the education system. Mr. Jones has retired and Jim Andy Sears has taken over. They tell me that Jim Andy is making everyone step around school. Mr. Sears also put in new teach- ers and office workers. Robert Elliot is now head of the English Department, Louise Dills the Sociology and Pauline Ledbetter the Commercial studies. Delores Chaffin has been pro- moted to Mrs. Moores' duties. And oh yes! Linda Kelly is teaching Home Economics. Joyce Weddle is Mr. Meece's private secretary. I am sure it has been hard for you to keep in contact with all our classmates who are still in Somerset, so whatlittle I might know about each one I will tell you. Jaunita Burton's husband is now head surgeon at the City Hospital. Joyce Harris and Sallie Kelly are both married and each has three children in school. I can't remember who their lucky husbands are. We Went out to visit Kenny Baker last week. He now owns a large farm in this county. He was telling us how broken-hearted he was about Susie's join- ing the Barnum and Bailey Circus. I think she is a trapeze girl. Another farmer in the county is Eugene T arter. He is making a fortune on strawberries. Eloise Branscum was telling me sometime ago that she wanted to go to Annapolis and work in an office. I could not figure out why until I remembered that Barbara Holton had said that Carleton Godsey was head of the Physics Department at the Naval Acadmey. The new secretary at the Bap- tist Church is Joyce Murphy. She has also taken overher sister's Sunday School class. Nancy Marcum is owner of the Country Club and is on her Way to raising a golf team. I believe her husband is an Eastern graduate. Wanda McGahan is enjoying her Work as Dean of the School of Nursing at Berea College. Claude Shoun has been a hard one to keep up With. First he was working at the Cherry Tree, then he Worked with the Kentucky Utili- ties Co., and now he has gone to Georgia Tech to teach. I received a letter from Wanda Linkes yesterday. She and John are in Tennessee where she thinks there is plenty of room for her seven children. I also heard from Theresa Ping. She has combined her desire to travel with her nurses training and is inspector and trainer in many of the larger hospitals. Margaret, I am sure there is a lot more to tell, yet if I told it all, enough material for a book would soon accumulate. Please let me know about any of our freinds that you might come in contact with. Your loving couz, Johanna P. S. We are planning on attending the Indianapolis races. Darrel Farley i racing and is favored to win.
