Six of the games played were won, two were tied, and two were lost. Outstand- ing players in the line were Captain George Hunter, Co-Captain Eugene Cruse, Dennie Gooch, Sam Crockett, and Clarence Mu-rphyg in the backfield, Buster Waddle, Lloyd Ramsey, Carl Randall, and William Vitateau. Other letter men were George Griffin, Roy Neikirk, Ray N eikirk, Charles Ritter, Vincent Osborne, Ed Tucker, Gerhard Brown, Edgar Russell, William Morgan, G. C. Heuser, and Fred Greene. Captain -elect for 1935, as chosen by the lettermen, is Lloyd Ramsey. THE SEASON BY GAMES The Jumpers were held to a 0 to 0 tie by Paris. Although the Jumpers were better and more powerful on defense and offense, they did not seem to have the necessary power for a touchdown when they were near the Paris goal. The Jumpers easily won over the blue and white team from Stanford by a score of 45 to 7. There was a marked improvement over the engagement with Paris, especially in of- fensive work and passing. The Jumpers, after a slow start, readily defeated the Golden Eagles of Irvine by a score of 33 to 12. More improvement was shown in this game and there was more teamwork. After losing for six years to Lancaster the Briar Jumpers trimmed the Green Devils 12 to 0. Starting an improved passing and offensive attack immediately after they came into possession of the ball, the Jumpers swept the Lancaster team off their feet in the first few minutes. The Jumpers were defeated by the Admirals of Dan ville by a score of 6 to 0. This game was a fight from the beginning to the end. Although Somerset showed much strength, the Admirals were able to scoretheir lone touchdown after a lengthy, nerve-racking strug- gle. This was a very thrilling game, especially because of an ancient rivalry. The Pineville Mountain Lions were crushed by the Jumpers by a score of 49 to 0. With a relentlessfbverpowering offensive attact, the Jumpers rapidly demoralized their oppon- ents and easily won the victory. Although Somerset outplayed the Yellow Jackets of Middlesboro, they were defeated by the score of 7 to 0. An intercepted pass and a'95-yard run netted- Middlesboro its touchdown. Somerset fought the remainder of the game to overcome the one -'touchdown lead, but they were repeatedly repulsed on the goal line by the opposing team. Somerset made fourteen first downs to Middlesboro's six. The Jumpers easily won from the Cadets of Millersburg Military Institute by a score of 38 to 0. A strong offensive attack ruined the Cadets early in the first quarter. On the day that President Roosevelt visited Harrodsburg, the Jumpers easily won over a weak Harrodsburg eleven by a score of 57 to 0. The passing attack of Somerset was a threat which could not be checked by the opposing team. In the last game of the season, the Jumpers were held to a 0 to 0 score by a spirited and fighting team from Henry Clay High of Lexington. The Jumpers made the poorest showing of the whole season. This game closed a colorful, spectacular season for the gridders of Somerset High. Two members 'of the team made the mythical All- C. K. C. team. These two were Dennie Gooch and Buster Waddle. Dennie, also, gained! a place on the second All- State Team. ag' ,. .x.'. R -,AV , ... dig? 'l ' 3-,. :Ji-' 1?- e a' X x. --A --A - X 4 ' K, I D
