On these pages will he preserved little everyday happenings, our clailv routine of classes, assemhly, cluhs, and meetings, accent- ed hy special events. Of course we cannot capture every mo- mnntg we cannot put on paper that feeling which comes from heing a Senior-the thrill of winning a tough football game, the emptv feeling when we heard the school Christmas carolers for the last time, the determination to keep our district haskethall record intact. the pride we felt in our Senior Class Plav, the intensitv of our Tug-of-NVar rivalry with the juniors, the helpless feeling when we were faced with writing and producing onr Com- mencement pageant, the awesome pause at the end of an hilarious week of graduation fun, the final echo of the Alma Materg hut in these pages we shall try to preserve a record of the actions which are results of that feeling. Life here at Somerset High will continue to change through the vears. lt will never he the same for future Seniors as it was for ns. Only in our yearbook will it remain nn- changed. fl Ifl MPP? AD TR Now what have you done'r',' greeted many of us as we came through the office door. It was often nothing serious, because we sometimes went to the ofhce for advice, which we always received, no matter how busy the administration was. For us it was the last year, but for some nielnbers of the administration it was only the beginning. Mr. Eberhart began his new job as supervising principal. and Mr. llininger became our new principal. What a great job they did! Last, but not least, was our office staff. whom we wish to thank for the consideration thev have given us. NVhen we were juniors, Mr. Eber- hart came to be our principal, and every- on 9 thought he was a wonderful fellow. We remember how he said that when we went to assembly we should sing the Star Snangled Banner with all the feeling pos- sible. Mr. Eberhart really lnade some changes for the better. BOARD OF EDUCATION T I 0 !ZAfnfww1fer5 - enera , if 'ghmki . Q K , Miss Fodder Mrs. jarvis Miss Kntler In September, 1951. Mr. liininger took over the position of principal and continued to make Somerset High School better so that the generations to come will End S. H. S. an even better place than We did. Mr. Piininger was once a teacher at Somerset. and therefore he could understand our problems and see our side of the questions that came up. Our secretaries, Miss Kuffer, Mrs. Jarvis, and Miss Fodder always had a smile and a helpful hand to extend to us. No matter how many times We opened the door, they always put aside everything and came to our aid. The school board consisted of a former teacher and a former principal of Somerset High School, and five other men who were interested in seeing that we as students had every opportunity to make good. All in all our administration saw to it that the class of 1952 enjoyed their four years stay at Somerset High School tremendously. 11 jA6LnL5 ZW me memoriw Hrs. F1'im-cllmfn-1' :xml Nlr. The junior Class was one of the most outstanding groups in school. They were busy bees who buzzed in many activities. game concessions. and assembly programs. Many of the junior boys were active in sports. Class president Bob Lape and his brother Bill, john DelVecchio, John NVilliams. and the three Bobs-Brown. Blank, and Flick. were all members of our winning football squad. Other Juniors were on the hasliethall and track teams. Sally johnston and Crace Benjaniin were varsity cheerleaders. while Lois Sechler was a member of the junior var- sity squad. The hand is another hangout for the Jun- ior Class. Lee Ann Shaffer. Tootie Baker, Pat Mason, Sandy Hare, and Nancv Bittner were our leading majorettes, and the drum major was another junior. Harold Male. The hand -iii . pf' A , ,. 1 l I Juniors' talents ranged from the flute, which jackie Lytle and Alice Egolf play. and the clarinet section, which is represented hv Nor- ma Iflottle and Margaret Svonayec, to the haritone, with Charles Doherty presiding. The class has its share of swell guys and girls like johnny Stoy, Cene Schrock, jane Graham. Arlene Clessner. and Mary Ann Cole- man. The juniors have heen successful since their freshman year, when they gathered for their Freshman Ilallowelen Party. Their Sophomore year they journeyed to Pittsburgh and gave a wonderful dance, The XVindmill XVhirl. This year they honored us with a beautiful Prom. and we pulled them through the mud in return. As we leave. we wish the Senior Class of '53 all the success. hard work. and good times we had here. 121 fr 1 fliird: l4i'1iiit,Siii'gi'iil, Bittmir, l3iikwi',SIiiiIik-ig Pvlf- Third: Dwiri-, NIcCli-im-iis, Maison. linnm-i'iii1iii, Ilus cvond: Srvdy, Siiiuilis, Sluuilis, Sulirm-k, Sm-uiiliiig uitlmi Q liiilwiglit Second: Nlilii-r, Siiaillvr. Our sister class is crammed full of sparkling personalities-personalities who will soon take our places in the classroom, in extracurricular ae- tivities, and especially in sports. Our peppy cheerleaders will be replaced by these vivacious J. V.'s: julia Varner, Sandra Del Vecchio, and Cwenny Bowlby. The football team will not be found lacking either, with Ronnie EnHeld's intel- ligent toe expertly sending the ball into the nec- essary places and with Bill Marsh's grab and run technique. And we can't forget the way lack Younkin handles a basketball. It takes only a quick look around to see that this class would come in tops in a beauty contest. To mention a couple- there are Peggy Tedrow, a tiny blonde with loads of zip, and Patty Rhodes, a pretty, dark-eyed majorette. Now we'll hand the femmes a few tips. Lynn Shober-um-m-m, Tom- myaer-ah-h-h, and Mario Betta-lnn-m-in. Need we say more? The Sophomore Class under its oihcers. Ierry Halverson, Bill Marsh, Sandra Del Vecchio, and Julia Varner, is bound to go far and will eventually make S. H. S. proud to say. Our choral program, which includes the mixed chorus, girls' chorus, and boys' chorus, is under the able direction of Mr. Philip Hol- singer. The mixed chorus is the largest group, composed of approximately one hundred and fittv students from grades ten, eleven and twelve. Presenting a program for open house and special assemblies, and attending the county mixed chorus festival were annual events. A smaller chorus was selected from the mixed chorus for the Christmas and Easter programs. The most outstanding activity this year was our spring concert, which required a lot of extra work. The boys' chorus could he heard practicing before school on YVednes- day mornings. The girls' chorus met during cluh period. They have presented programs for assemblies. Participating in our choral programs makes our school days more pleas- ant.
