T The story begins in the year 1943, when, under the leadership of Robert Schr k f ' ' oc , we began our activities. Besides cheering at the football and basketball of the bench games, we had a section reserved for our bench warmers The . n came the big get together-the freshman is was a milestone in Halloween Party. Th the making of friends. Chapter two began with volunteers and appointees working together to make a memorable Soph-Senior Hop. The Carni-Ball was a replica of a carnival the merry-go-round p redomin ating. Suddenly chapter three was upon us Rings were ordered and a play was in the air. Teen Daze was a play of the typ- ical teen-ager and was artistically enact- ed. Moonlight Serenade, our prom. was l tru y a big accomplishment. Our athletes were taking honors in all fields of sports, and we were becoming more important in all phases of our sehool life. Finally we came to the last and final l'rf,1 ideal chapter: a chapter which seems a little hurried, a little sad. ' were off the bench for good and were in there winning and reaching their goals for stardom. Much combing of hair, Hx- ing of makeup, straightening of ties, and hunting of one-strand pearls took lac This year our fellows . 0 ' p e for the taking of the Senior pictures. The Senior's dramatic production In A House Like This was a big success, which proves that our class has dramatic talent. VVe also h 'fact was proved to us whe members were choosen for All County and All State orchestra. Some of our class- mates also participated in the operetta The Gondoliersu. .-Xnnouncemen ave musical talent. This n some of our ts and name cards were ordered, measuring for QOXYHS, C0l'T1l'l1Cl1 endured and then came graduation. VVe are now ready to clos CL'IT1Cl'lf PFIICITCCS XVCI1' , .e the cover on this book and each of us is going his way. lfaeh will write his own story, but no matter to what heights we go as indi- viduals, we shall always be proud and grateful for the good thoughts, the 'ood fs works and th- f l A' - t goof timts we txpt rieneed as the Class of 1947. Miss Romanoski, their sponsor, held a Freshman llallowe'en Party so that all these heginners could hecome hetter acquainted with each other. Three members of this class became Varsity Cheer Leaders. Arlene Petrea, Ann Lohr, and Mary Alice Hare were the lucky repre- sentatives. They still are memhers of the squad and this year Arlene hecame their captain. liven more important than the llallowe'en party was the Sophomore-Senior Dance. 'lihis gave the amhitious Sophomores a C h a nee to show other classes what they could produce. Some of these stu- dents sold refreshments at foothall games while many of their classmates helped the team gain vic- tories by occupying the bleachers and rooting. l,elt to right--lf. Pyle, F. During their seventh and eighth grade years they came out on top in practically all the tin can drives. This patriotic group of people push- ed the bond and stamp sales very well too. Upon entering the Freshman Class they added quite a few more people to their number. Vllith Sally Hoff- man as their leader, probably the most outstanding event of their lirst year was their Freshman llal- lowe'en Party. Being a little more used to the ways of the school, they were more active in their Sophomore Year. Under the guidance ol hlcliinley Beabes they start- ed out with a hang by selling refreshments at the football games. Not only was this class represented on the sidelines but also right out there on the grid- iron. As the Christmas Season neared the plans for the annual Soph-Senior Dance were progress- ing very rapidly. And in tune with the holiday season the Serenade in Blue was presented in honor of the seniors. Left to right-1. Johnson, H. Hoover, Harvey, johnson, S. HolTman, T. Baldwin, T. Hutzell, A. Henry. P. As seventh graders, they won the prize for selling the most Senior Class Play and operetta tickets. They spent quite a few days in :preparation and a red-letter day enjoying a class picnic that they entirely p l a n n e d and executed themselves. This year, one of their prominent home rooms, 202, was the winner for selling the most tickets for the Senior Class Play. The first prize was the sum of three dollars, which they promptly turned over for filling Eve junior Red Cross gilt boxes. They have added their share to the sports picture also. The Iiighrlm Grade Boys' Basketball Team won the 1946-47 County Basketball Championship. Not to be outdone, the girls' basketball team from room 204 defeated the Sophomores in 'za hard-fought intramural battle. A few eighth grade girls represented their class in the drum ma-iorette demonstrations which took place at several of the important football and basket- ball games. This wide-awake gang has established innum- erable records and will strive for many honors in the remainder of its school life. Top---B. llcrshey, lf. Graham, S. Griffith. Xl, llileman, R. Gross. Ykolford, Nlr, Kinney. IJ, Xliller UTURE FARM The F.F.:X. Chapter of Somerset has been quite active for the past year. ln September, nineteen new members were initiated into the Chapter, increasing the membership to forty-one. Jack Xvalters who dropped from their ranks during the first week of school, represented the chapter in the Pennsyl- vania State F.l .i-X. Band. which played at the National F.F.A. convention at Kansas City in October. The entire chapter journeyed to Pitts- burgh in November to see the Pittsburgh Livestock Show representing lflf..-X. and 4-H boys from all the 'liri-State area. Wlhile at the Show, the boys had an opportunity to visit the Armour meat packing plant as a subject for study. Five boys visited the lfarin Show at llarrisburg in -lanuary and were amazed to find the mammoth display ol' machin- ERS OF AMERICA ery and livestock exhibited there. Vvhile in llarrisburg the boys visited the State Capitol buildings. Group projects carried on at the School farm by the chapter include 3 acres of beets, 3 acres of husking corn, 3 acres of oats. and 3 fat hogs. The corn and oats were fed to the hogs and later the hogs were sold locally. The money from the beets and the hogs went to the chapter treasury. Besides these activities the club has sponsored seed sales to aid the farm- ers in getting quality seeds, and made many items in shop which will be of use to the boys on their farms. 'lihe group highlighted its year's work with their Father and Son Banquet in Nlarch. Dr. C. S. Anderson spoke to the club concerning economic conditions in lfurope. . lhis year has certainly been one in which the boys fulfilled their motto: 1 1 Doing In learn, l,iving In serve lnterested partieipatioii. 'MON OMERSET! EAT 'EM! Our pep squad is efhciently sponsored by Mrs. Luteri and ably headed by Arlene Petrea. The varsity squad is made up of six members whose duty it is to arouse the pep of the crowd and keep them solidly behind the team. Besides this task, these girls are busy making up new yells and new motions that will im- prove some of the well-worn yells. They are also responsible for the clever pep meetings that are held before the most important football and basketball games. Not only are these girls talented in mak- ing up yells and planning pep meetings but when it comes to actual performance, they are tops. This was proven when they won the 1946-1947 cheerleading contest which was held at Ferndale High. The junior varsity squad also deserves a great deal of attention. Vllhen vacancies occur on the varsity squad, these girls are ready to fill them. They keep in trim by leading the cheers at all the preliminary basketball games and by assisting the varsity squad at the pep meetings. J, Kimmcl, lx, Nllllrr 4, amlsl, Il Vlvrclu-r li. Each Tuesday at 4:00, the faculty of Somerset Hi may look forward to a bit of refreshment at the hands of these busy lasses. In ad- dition to this weekly project, a junior Red Cross Gift Box drive was sponsored and carried through.
