Medicine, mathematics, politics, education--any one of these may be adapted to suit one's individual desires and abilities. As we leave our high-school days behind us to enter these business, social, and professional careers, the realization that we have not yet dipped deeply into life's great cup of knowledge is overwhelming. We are yet but children in the arms of our Protector, being led through the first great step in our education. We have become acquainted with the history of our country and world, we have dabbled into the fields of science, chemistry and physics, we have obtained a triflefof information about the creative arts through our study of English, we have been faced with some of the problems which have stumped our greatest mathematicians through the applicatiion of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry, yes, we have but scratched the surface. There is yet much to be desired in the way of experience and skill. But it does no good to sit back and wish for great knowledge, or to review what information has been acquired thus far. Anything worth having is worth working for. As we graduate from Solon High School, we are aware of this factg and thusly, we will pursue our varied careers by entering colleges or commercial schools, by securing jobs in the highly industrialized manufac- turing centers of our time, and by becoming successful citizens, wherever we may reside in this great wide world. We may never have a graduate of our class reach the office of President or even become a governor. We may never ascend the stairs to fame in the Held of medicine, politics or educa- tion, yet each one will be able to mould the world into a more perfect place for his having lived. Each member will become aware of his capabilities and will realize the opportunities for advance- ment which are his for the asking. Each one will know that no goal can be reached without much preparation, patience, and pursuance. With this knowledge, may each graduate see his accomplishments, realize how much more there is to seek, and remember the words of our motto, Aim at the Highest, There is always room at the top. DAWN ANDREWS, Editor-in-Chief 2 VVC, the Senior Class of 1957, wish to dedieate this fourteenth volume of our annual yearhook, THE IDIRIGO, to our beloved teachers who have so faithfully guided us through our last four years at Solon High. They have been ready, willing, and able to serve and to give unselfishly of their time and energy to each and all of our endeavors. ARLENE MCCARTY DIANNE STEVENS, ,58 , Qihrerlvahvrz The Solon cheerleaders sported fancy new outfits this year. The weskits of red and white corduroy, along with matching cuff-links and buttons, were made by the cheerleaders. As an added attraction, they placed a red bow at the neck of their men's shirtn blouses. ' Returning to the squad were Dawn Andrews, Di- anne Stevens, Arlene McCarty, and Charlene Wash- burn. Charlene has been head cheerleader for two years. Anne Withers was the only new member. DIANNE STEVENS, '58 Eazrhall As the yearbook goes to press, the Solon VVildcats are preparing for another season of baseball. The Wildcats are looking for their third successful season, already having won two baseball trophies in succession. Some of the boys have been making bats in manual training. Mr. Civen, our manager, has also purchased twelve new bats. Our other equipment is still in good condition. The main problem this year will stem from the pitching mound since our staff was depleted by graduation. Publishing a yearbook is not a oncfman job, but demands the cooperation of fellow editors. Each year in early November, the stall? spends two days selling ads in surrounding towns. This gives each student an opportunity to try his ability in selling. All pictures for THE DIRIGKJ were taken by Stevens Studios of Bangor. Through a contract with the seniors in which each member pur- chased portraits, all other pictures were taken without further charge to the high school. We wish to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Dow, our supervisor, and our faithful advertisers for making our yearbook a success.
