Nelson, Principal of Soldan High School, attended South- ern Illinois University where he re- ceived his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then enrolled at the University of Illinois where he received his Masters degree in Chemistry. A Mr. Nelson's deep feeling of the responsibility he has assumed for the past three years are best expressed in his following statement: Through the years Soldan has had a rich tradition serving as a beacon light to the West End Community. As we reflect on the school's con- tribution by decades from 1917 to l967, we challenge you, fine Soldan- ites who are graduating this year, to strive unceasingly to find worthwhile places fog yourselves in the main stream of mankind. We trust that you will go forth with your minds fixed on attainable goals, looking for- ward to a monumental year in l967 as a result of your endeavors. It is so good to have been made rich because of contacts with you. Further, it is our desire to look with optimism to the contributions your lives will make for the better- ment of our community and all humanity. MR. JOHN A. NELSON PRINCIPAL AT SOLDAN
