Although the staff has devoted many hours of work, the book could not have been completed without the loyal co-operation of faculty, students and patrons. Throughout the years to come, we hope this bookwlll serve to help you recall many pleasant and profitable days spent at Soddy-Daisy. nl X 5' 9-A MISS WILMA SMA LL Librarian In appreciation for her helpful- ness, patience, cheerfulness, alld friendly interest, the staff affec- tionately dedicates to Miss Wilma Small this the 1960 edition of the Soddy-Daisy'Trojan, DEDICATIO The 1960 Dedicatee ls announced by Stuart Levi Recognition-Class Day April 28 Soddy-Daisy records show that Mr. Armor had an enviable academic record and was very busy in ex- tracurricular activities. He was vice president of his class, associate editor of The Navy and Gold, Bus- iness Manager for the Yearbook, president of the Chapter of the Red Cross, a member of the Beta Club, a member of the Boys' Quartet, and played a leading role in several school plays, From 1939 until 1941, Mr. Armor worked as an appliance salesman and in various food markets. Dur- ing these years he also studied voice, sang in church groups, and served as a vocal soloist for the Trinity Methodist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, In 1941 Mr, Armor answered the call to military service and became a part of the 181st Field Artil- lery of the U, S, Army. He was sent on maneuvers to various points of Louisiana, then to California, where his musical interests helped him to become a Drum Major in the 181st Field Artillery Band, Later he was sent to Fort Sill, Okla, , where he studied radio and became a Radio Sergeant, In June, 1944, he was sent to Europe, where he served until Sept, , 1945, While in military service, he sang both as solo- ist and with groups in various churches and Army programs. While stationed in Louisiana, Mr. Armor met and married his present wife, Dorothy Tucker Armor. They now have two children. In 1945 he decided that he should do full-time church work inthe Baptist Church. He enrolled in Louis- iam P0lYI6Cl1HiC Imritute in 1946 and graduated in 1950 with a B.M. He then went to Southwestern Bap- tist Theological Seminary from which he graduated in 1952 with a M,S,M, Afterwards he earned a B,S, in Music from Louisiana North East State College. From 1952 to 1959, while attending college part-time, Mr. Armor taught music in the public schools of Louisiana, was a music supervisor, singer, and choir director. Mr. Armor is now Minister of Music in Farmerville, La, , where he directs five choirs of more than 200 voices, Our sincere admiration and best wishes go to Mr. J. V. Armor, ODDY-DAISY LL OF E ELECT THE J. V. ARMCR JA LT I .FAAAE lFRfHA CLASS 1938 TERRELLJACKSON', Mr. Jackson made an impressive record during his high school career. He was excellent in scholar- shlpg presldentofthe senior classg president of Hamilton County 4-H Club in 1938g Editor-in-Chief of the Trojan Billboard, treasurer of the Soddy-Daisy Chapter of F, F,A,g member of the State Champion Dairy Judging Teamp member of the Beta Club: Letterman ln basketball and baseball, and a member of several play casts. Since his graduation from Soddy-Daisy in 1938, Mr. Jackson has excelled in many phases of life, A few of his many accomplishments and activities are listed below: ln scholastic work: He entered U. T. College of Agriculture in 1938 where he made an enviable aca- demic record, l-le won awards and trophies in the live-stock and dairy judging contests. He played both Varsity and semi-professional baseball to help to defray his college expenses. After an interruption for military service, he completed his college training in 1946. In military service: Mr, Jackson entered the U. S. Army in 1941, In a testing program for Officers Candidate School, he ranked very high. He chose the Engineer's Corps and was commlssioneda second Lieutenant, While in service, he won many decorations, citations, and battle and campaign stars. l-le terminated his military service in 1946 with the rank of Major, As a citizen: In 1942 Mr. Jackson married the former Miss Betty Frank Kidd of Knoxville, Tennessee. After graduating from college in 1946, he was sent to Pulaski, Tennessee, as the Assistant County Agent. He established a home in Pulaski, Tennessee, where he is a member of the Baptist Church, Lion's Club, Chamber of Commerce, The Industrial St Agriculture Group, American Legion, and the State Staff of the Tennessee National Guard. He has a family of three children and takes part in all worthwhile activities ln Giles County.
