COACH MATUSEK Coach Matusek should be congratulated for the team he has developed. We know the school appreciates the work he and his assistants, Coach Seaton have done in the past three years and wish them the best of luck next year. CAPTAIN ROSS fButchJ CLIFT Butch was every bit a fine captain as he was a player. I-le was chosen as all conference half back in '38 and also '39. Butch with his excellent punting and running will be missed in the years to come. ARTHUR CBoggyJ CURVIN Boggy has played three years of football. This year he was cho en all conference end. With his blocking, passing and catching he should be a great help to the team next year. MILLARD fBunkD HACKNEY Bunk who held down his position was good on the offense as well as the defense and could block and tackle with the best of them. Chosen an all Conference tackle he will be back to help the team. Bunk was also elected as next year's captain. EUGENE CGeneJ VARNER Gene was especially good on defense. I-le has many tackles behind the line of scrimmage to his credit. I-le was an all conference guard last year and repeated the honor this year. I-le will be greatly missed. MARCUS fBecIO GANN Beck although light had plenty of nerve and played hard at all times. I-le received honorable mention as all conference guard. WARREN CLAYTON Warren although light made an excellent showing as guard. l-le could be counted on and when a play was called his way he always got his men. Warren received honorable mention as all conference guard. ROLAND POE Roland made an excellent showing for only one year's experience. CHARLES CFIopJ LYNCH Flop was a good defense as well as an offensive end. I-le will be missed. BILL fSquirrelyD NELSON Bill was a fine passer as well as a runner. I-le will be missed. LEE MULKEY Lee was a fine fullback and when a yard was needed he was the boy to carry the pigskin. I-le was also Alternate Captain. I-le will be missed. JAMES CBIackieD MOORE Blackie played quarter back and did an excellent job of it and will be missed. WILLARD GRANT Willard played quarter back and did an excellent job of it and the team will miss him. CLIFFORD AND CECIL LOGAN These two brothers proved that when put into a game that they could take it. Clifford will not be back next year, but Cecil will see plenty of service next year. ARTHUR SMEDLY and ARNOLD SMITH Smedly was good on defense and could be counted on to make any tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Smith made an excellent showing for only one year of experience. JAMES fMonkJ MULKEY and DUVAL HAWK Monk played excellent ball for one year's experience and will be a great help to the team. WADE MASTERSON AND JAMES CLIFT Wade and James, though freshmen, looked pretty good and we will see a lot of them. JIM COX and HOBART MAXWELL Jim, although light, showed everyone that he had what it takes to be a center. I-le will be back. I-lobart was every bit a fine fullback. I-le could kick and run with the best of them. When he was called on, he did his best with force. HOMER SMITH I-lomer's first year in football was good. Although he had no experience, he showed that he could take it.
