Spikers have tou h season A 1 A 5 .The junior-varsity volleyball season was fairly split with a re- cord of 12 wins and 11 losses. As a new coach, Mr. jesse Brown had his hands full trying to accustom the girls to his form of coaching. The team opened the season with a depressing loss to Bowie. Mr. Brown considered third place in the Ysleta tournament a re- markable achievement, since there were ten teams competing. As the team progressed toward the end of the season, the most 56 Volleyball ,.., Wh! K, at V I 4. Q2 exciting games were against Coro- nado and Riverside. After observing the girls throughout the season, Mr. Brown said he considered Lupe Maldon- ado, Norma Navarette, Maria Alba and Diane Delage to be the most aggressive and hard-working players. Mr. Brown added that he feels the girls have improved con- siderably since their last season, and is looking forward to a much more exciting season next year. 44 fly After upsetting Hanks, the Bulldogs unite on the court, 12, Before a home game, the Bulldogs warm up to face a tough opponent. Oy The team members are, back row, Coach jesse Brown, Nancy Gomez, Norma Navarette, Veronica Na- varette, Diane Delage and Inez Morales, front row, Nora Osoria, and manager Lau- ra Hernandez. f4j Diane Delage attempts to score against the Hanks opponents. fij Through a tough game, the Bulldog play- ers try to increase the score. lil During a game against Ysleta, the Bulldog defender attempts to stop a score. f6j After winning their first game, the Bulldog offensive drive tries to increase the score. Iirosh enjo f i S 3 14 inning season ZQ Mrs. Gloria Garza joined the faculty this year, and coaching the freshman volleyball team was her first assignment. I've really en- joyed this because the girls really hustle and put all they've got into the game, she said. Team captain Elena Narvarez defended the back line, while Lupe Marez and Dolores Lucero handled the spiking chores. Best servers were Sandra Berumen and Maria Jimenez. Susie Orona was not only a top setter, she also man- aged to keep the team spirit run- ning high. Terry Granillo was noted for her killer serves, and Virginia Martinez was the team's most im- proved player. Front players were Sandra Vasquez and Claudia Saldivar. The team was tied for first place as the season wound down, but a disappointing loss to Ysleta junior High left the Bulldogs in second place.
