Through his able guidance students learn basic gram- mar skills, lib r a r y science, and an appreciation of literature. Pictured with him are Glenda White and Mitchell Duke. Miss Margaret Miller, a teacher of English II and III in Snyder High School has been very helpful in furthering her students in English. She is showing a notebook to Beverly Black, Pat Dunn, Nelda Pevehouse, and Lynnda Bradley. Mrs. Arel Faver makes English II an exciting adventure through many projects. Students study short stories, mystery stories anda short novel, Silas Marner, besides going into grammar into detail. Larry McNair, Candy Weyel, and Frances Martin are shown helping her arrange a display.

-di Y Mrs. Virgil Joines teaches her students self-reliance which will help them in later life. Studies of English literature, study habits and grammar are enjoyed by her students of English IV. In English II she teaches aunit on mythology in addition to regular s tudie s . Students with Mrs. Joines are Richard Sumruld and Virginia Smith. ' -- ..,. J 5 W . Baa ' Mr. Virgil Joines in English III teaches appreciation of American Literature by detailed studies of American Authors. He also encourages his students to in- crease their vocabulary so that their reading comprehension will be greater. Shown with Mr. Joines are Leatha Brice, Charles Merritt, and Nelda Matthews. Mrs. M. M. O'Rear, teacher of English III and IV, opens broad vistas of know- ledge to her students through detailed studies of American and English litera- ture. She makes the authors live for her students as they learn about them. Effec- tive communication skills such as poetry and essay writing are also stressed by Mrs. O'Rear, Picturedwith Mrs.O'Rear are Ginny Sims, Kenneth Haught, and Carol Strom.

p f V' ,J ' 9 7 Edin Re! ' Pictured with Miss Ann Heinen are: Nan Hill, Elizabeth Williams, Becky Lawel- len, and Gene Shelburne. Miss Heinen teaches English I and Journalism as well as sponsoring the school newspaper, the Tiger's Tale. In Journalism, students are taught the fundamentals of newspaper writing. By working on the Tiger's Tale, the students get a good chance to put their knowledge to the test of usage. Mrs. W. N. Shiflett is shown instructing Bill Weaver, John Best, and Stuart Long. She teaches Spanish I and English I. In the Spanish classes, students are given a basic vocabulary with practice in speaking the languageg they are givena chance to learn more about their own language by comparing it with the foreign tongue. Shown with Mrs. H. G. Burchett are Annette Blum and Dick Martin. In her teaching, Mrs. Burchett supple- ments Latin Iand II and Spanish II with many interesting facts about Roman and Spanish cultures. Students learn not only through classroom exercises, but by extra reading and reports. She also teaches Typing I.
