BOARD OF EDUCATION The Snyder School Board has a strong faith in the value of educationg therefore it has set high standards for its schools and has spent many, many hours in planning for the construction of needed facilities and the development of an educational program which is responsive to the needs of students in Snyder. When men such as these board members give as much of their time and talent toward the ultimate goal of better educa- tion, surely the result will always be good schools such as we in Snyder enjoy. ex' N MR. SNYDER VS. ll-IMESA HERE HERE The Tigers dropped their third district game to a hot Lamesa ball club, 62-40. The taller Tornadoes grabbed most of the rebounds to control the backboards. Snyder attempted 25 field goals and made 14 for a 56 percentage figure, but Lamesa made ZZ out of 36 for 67 per cent. Dubose and Tankersley were high for Snyder with 14 and 10 points, respectively. THERE The Tornadoes dropped the Tigers 66-42 in the second game betweenthe two teams. This was just about the same score as the first game and things went very much the same for the Tigers. Lamesa made an impressive 74 per cent of their field goal attempts. This was the onlydistrict game that the Tigers did not have a player who hit in double figures. LARRY PATTERSON Guard l yr. LAKEVIEW THERE The Lakeview Chiefs defeated Snyder 68-60 to take over the lead in district play. The Tigers might well have downed the Chiefs had their been fewer fouls called on them. The game was tied 3l-31 at halftimeg but four Snyder players fouled out the second half to give Lakeview the advantage. The Snyder substitutes gave the Chiefs quite a battle in the fourth period before bowing to the taller Lakeview team. Danny Tankersley and Jerry Fleming led the Tiger scoring with 18 and 13 points. HERE The Tigers again came out on the bottom end of the score with Lakeview as the Chiefs dropped Snyder 61 to 54 to clinch the district title. The Tigers outscored the Chiefs in every period except the second but the Lake- view team gained a 17 point lead in that quarter. The Bengals rallied in the last half to cut downa 20 point to 7 points as the buzzer sounded. Billy Dubose and Stan Hulen were high point men of Snyder with 17 and 13 points. Lubbock Snyder Vernon Snyder Brownfield Snyder Mineral Wells Snyder Amarillo Snyder 54 The Snyder Tiger cagemen experienced what at first might be termeda lean year, winning only five games of twenty-one played. But the team did considerably better than appears at first glance when it is taken into account that they had only a handful of returning letter - men and no regulars. As if this were not enough, the squad was plagued by the old bugaboo of injuries. During the season several underclassmen developed into good players and are showing promise for coming seasons. All in all, our school can be proud of the fine way in which our basketball team played on with spirit when all of the chips were against them. 166 Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Snyder Lakeview Borger San Angelo Midland Colorado City Sweetwater Lamesa Lakeview Colorado City Sweetwater Lamesa 61 Marcus Strickland is shown reaching high to steal a rebound from the Sweetwater Mustangs All-DISTRICT String.
