K ff gs y.Y'f 'fe ' Foreword In this volurne, the staff has attemptedlto give a'picture of life in Snyder High School--not a complete picture, to be sure, since such would be impossible in a book of this size--but a picture which shows some of everything which has happened in Snyder High this year. The staff would like to express sincere thanks to the countless people who have helped us compile and edit this volume. I Finally, we wish to say that in presenting this volume we hope and trust that you will judge our accomplishments, and remember that we have tried to the best of our ability to keep apace with the astounding progress of our school as a whole. f'.', ff A3 l Q 3+ ' ij QQ A I x I X f ' .f ............, 'L ' f'L-711 X -iff! ---.1:-.,-F'-V s , --,X sx Tgfgtjgiffil'-22.5 K 1 Nw ,,M,::-7 K, ,im X 2 ' if:-:T-.rxtir----1 2 'fzlvfril X K' Fsii'-U5 ' P 4'k5321', X 4. ,r ' . -+L? -.,.., L 5:-.zzz-,:yggJ, TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION VIEWS ADMINISTRATION FACULTY SENIORS JuNloRs soFHoMoREs FRESHMEN FAVORITES ORGANIZATIONS SPORTS FEATURES ADVERTISING DEDICATION I s : Q .. TURNER President Superintendent Vice-President Busy men are chosen for the big tasks--and big tasks await those who would assume the grave responsibilities of decision for the future. Such decision requires wisdom, foresight, integrity, and faith. Snyder High School is indeed fortunate that it has a board oftrustees anda superintendent who possess all these qualities in abundance. It is there- fore in appreciation for the service which these menhave rendered to the Snyder schools that the Tiger's Lair is dedicated to them. is Im H? fi S r Q f ,J . 1-- l N I x W.H. In September the remainder of the staff was chosen and serious planning on theme, layout, design, and content was begun. The Staff undertook to in- crease the size of the book by forty pages with an enlarged class section because of our almost double enrollment. Plagued by delays, deadlines, and bad weather, but blessed by a splendid spirit of co-operation among administration, faculty, student body, and advertisers at last the book has been completed. For seven months the 1951 Tiger's Lair has been in the making. Now it is yours, we hope it brings back many memories of a great year in Snyder High School. If it does, then our task was not in vain. B Team Bill Cain of the Cubs sacks up two points against Rotan. Sec1son's Review .of Basketball The Snyder Tigers had avery successful basketball season during the 1950 and 1951 campaign. The Tigers finished third in the district. Coach Kinney took a group of boys who had never played much basketball and developed them into a good ball club. The squad went to three tournaments. The team won second place consolation at Lakeview, third at Hamlin, and were defeated by McCamey 33 to 32 in their first game of the -Big Lake tournament. Another outstanding fact about the Tigers is that they were only beaten twice by the same team. Big Spring, a Double A school, defeated the Tigers twice as did the Roscoe Plowboys, the district champions. Basketball has gained popularity until now it draws almost as many fans as football. The gymnasium was filled to capacity in the majority of the home games. Also, the Tiger fans out- numbered the home team rooters in many of the out-of-town games. The football squad finished third in the district winning six and losing four games the whole season. The first game ofthe season, the Snyder Tigers were defeated by a scrappy bunch of Winters Blizzards to the tune of 18-7. The Tigers were always in the game but it seemed that they could get no breaks. In the second game of the season, the Tigers fought a larger Stamford Bulldog squad to a standstill before bowing out l3-7. The Tiger squad still had not mastered the tricky Split T , The Split T is a formation where all the handoffs are at the line of scrimmage, and if there is a fumble, the opposing team has a greater chance of recovering. The Split T is one of the trickiest formations in football and it took the Tigers two games to catch on to it. In the third game, the Tigers started hitting on all cylinders. The result was a victory over the favored Lakeview Chiefs. The Chiefs were favored in the contest, but good blocking, tack- ling, passing, and running brought the Tigers to a 33 to 7 win. Next came the Albany Lions, one of the best teams the Tigers faced all year. The Tigers were pepped up for the game and defeated the Lions to the tune of 33 to 13. The game was out- standingbecause the Tigers were playing the kind of ball of which they were capable. The game also brought two linesmen the thrill of making a touchdown. Center, Grant Teaff, ran an inter- cepted pass back for a touchdown. A few plays later, big W.G. Birt, the 2,07 pound tackle, intercepted a pass that had been deflected out of the passer's hand and ran the distance to the goal line for the T. D. In the next game, the Tigers beat the defending champs, the Rotan Yellowhammers, to a pulp--33 to O! Max Coffee, the lZO pound quarterback of the Tigers, ran for six touchdowns but three were called back. The following week, the Tigers could do nothing right and were defeated by the Colorado City Wolves 45 to 13. The Wolves went on to win the district. The heavier Wolf squad also ran a Split T and won with the help of many costly fumbles on the Tigers' part. Undaunted by the Colorado City loss, the Tigers defeated the Roby Lions unmercifully the next week by the score of 40 to O. The next game brought the Hamlin Pied Pipers to Snyder after which they went home with a Z0 to 13 victory. The Tigers were ahead until the last few minutes when the Pipers pulled the oldest of them all--the old Statue of Liberty . The play worked, and the Hamlin boys had a win under their belts. , The Merkel Badgers fell to the Tigers the following week by a score of 44 to l4. This was the coldest game the Tigers played in the viewpoint of the weatherman. Only a few fans braved the zero weather to see the game and the majority of these were Snyder people. Inthe last game of the season, the Tigers defeated the Roscoe Plowboys for the first time in fourteen years. The Tigers beat the Plowboys Z5 to 9 to mark the last game for the seniors. The bo'ys gave their all and won this game in true Tiger fashion. 4 mai..-1-ni-1 -. - f--...
