We began our long hike toward graduation when we were the first seventh grade to be placed at the high school. From the start. our group was character- ized by one thing-energy. ln the freshman year sports-minded girls joined the CAA. and vigorously enjoyed the week-long initiation. Our class also held a highly profitable bake sale and treated the school to a movie during the lunch hour. As 1956 rolled around. our energy bubbled over into constructive activities. Looking forward to the next yearis prom. we raised money on bake sales. We joined the Hi-Y and Y-Teens. taking active participation from the start. Three milestones marked our junior year. The first Our class sponsors. Miss Telban and Mr. Markley. have helped us in many ways during our last year here at Snow- den. Our success would not have been accomplished without their guidance. CLASS COLORS: Royal Blue and White CLASS FLUWER: White Rose CLASS NIOTTO: T he foundation of every state is the education of its youth. Senior register on page 91 Senior Histor was. of course, getting our class rings. This affirmed our success as members of the student body of Snowden. The second very important milestone was the Junior Class play. Every member of our class joined in to bring the school one of the funniest comedies in years, nTwo Girls and a Ghost. Number three was the final marker, the junior prom. For the first time in many years the Prom was held outside the school at the Youghiogheny Country Club. The theme, Emerald lslef' was displayed on the invitations and tickets that our class members made themselves. This year we have achieved another first. We are the first graduating class of the new Snowden Junior- Senior High School. We have tried to set examples for the underclassmen by presenting unity within our ranks. The senior play, L'Shooting High. was achieved by this unity as were our many other projects. We leave Snowden reluctantly and take with us many happy memories. ' 1 'Y 135 JOYCE ANN BAKUS WALTER A. The Hi-Y Club, like its sponsoring group, the Y.M.C.A., aims to develop nationwide fellow- ship and high standards of Christian character and conduct. Other purposes of the Hi-Y are to promote clean speech, clean living, and good sportsmanship. At the beginning of the year new members had their initiation. Yearly projects, including the Sadie Hawkins Dance, the Orphans, Party, and the dis- tribution of Christmas baskets to needy families, were carried out successfully by the Hi-Y Club. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Cherney, the Hi-Y certainly accomplished worthwhile objectives. To complete the year, a Hi-Y-Y-Teen picnic was held where all members enjoyed the company of their friends and classmates. Top row fleft to right!-D. Stark, F. Kress, T. Berger, L. Stilley, J. Junior Classical Lea ue The Junior Classical League is a rather new addi- tion to the clubs at Snowden. lt was first started in the school year of 1957-1958. With the help of Mr. D,Andrea, the sponsor, it is progressing well. The purpose of the Junior Classical League is to encourage among the young people an interest in and appreciation of the civilization, language, litera- ture and art of ancient Greece and Rome, and to give them some understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity. The league is a national and state organization. Next year the club hopes to he represented at the state convention. f 2 3? ? A 2 Top row fleft to right!
