Serving first as teacher and , , I , - - 1 n n n . . . . . . e 6 DEDICATICN Qurgpx I' Dr James L Zlmmerman In recognition of hus adeptness ln takmg over the admlnlstratlve dutles of the Snowden School dnstrnct we dedicate thus 1958 Aqulla to Dr JamesL Zimmerman Dr Zimmerman came to Snowden to serve as supervusnng prmcupal after the death of Martm E Weaver He started has career In German Townshnp ln Fayette County After servmg an the elementary school there for one year he attended Davusons Elkins College at Elkms West Vnrgmna He taught un the cnty schools at Clarks burg but he returned to German Townshlp and became prnncupal of the hugh school there H taught at Munholl Hugh School as Director of Athletics and later became supervusmg prmcnpal of the West Homestead Schools Any newcomer ns at a disadvantage but Dr Zimmerman soon more than compensated for has lack of famuluarnty wuth our school H us won frlendshlp and admuratlon from all sudes lt was no tnme at all before he lnaugur ated many new udeas that Improved our school system tremendously Snowden was fortunate Indeed In nts chonce ofa new school leader Our dedlcatuon to Dr Zimmerman bears with ut our slncerest wrsh that good fortune con tmue to attend hum as he guudes and serves Snowden Townshup Schools f I . .. . . The Y-Teens meet every third Wednesday of the school term. At these meetings the members and the officers discuss the various activities that the club sponsors. The club's ac- tivities this year have included the Christmas Dance, the Sadie Hawkin's Dance, and the Orphans' Party. They have also sold basket- ball pins and candy to raise money. At the end of the year the club plans to have its an- nual picnic for its members. The Snowden club is a branch of the national American Classical League. Mr. D'Andrea started the J. C. L. in order that the Latin students might learn more about Roman life, customs, language, history, and literature. Each is respected and well-liked by the members of the teams because of his patience and devotion. With inspiring guidance, they have had a remarkable ability of developing clean play and good sportsmanship among the team members. Our coaches inspire and encour- age the co-operation of the players. Even with the outstanding accomplishments of this year's basketball team, they were never over-confident. They demand determined playing, good team spirit, and aggressiveness. Many times they would start from scratch, as they did with the football team this year, and do a terrific job of rebuilding a good team The iob they do as leaders in their fields brought praise and honor to our school. We commend you, coaches!!!! FOOTBALL The Blue and White Gridders won only one of the six games played this past season. This poor showing was due to the returning of only three lettermen and an epidemic of influenza, both of which played an important part on the outcome of the season. Coaches Nedwidek and Bauer, looking for- ward to the future, molded a unit of underclass- men which improved with every game. The open- ing game with Monongahela was a defensive thriller. Both sides battled fiercely, but the Wild- cats scored twice onthe Eagles in the second half, The Eagles were defeated by their next two op- ponents, Bellevue and Pitcairn, the Eagles could not find an offensive combination. The next two games were canceled because of the flu. Play- ing its first home game of the season, Snowden rornped over South Fayette, a highly-rated team in the W.P.I.A.L. Playing their archsrival, Bethel, Snowden scored on the opening kick-off, but the Blackhawks' control of the ball enabled them to win. The last game of the season was with Cecil. Although the team did not win many games, it made a good showing in all of them.
