Snow Hall (the new women's dormitory), Anderson Hall (the new men's Dormitory), The Stadium, and the Lucy Phillips Library. v4A STADIUM 176 9158463 SNOW HALL ANDERSON HALL THIS DAY This day is the greatest day of our lives. Never at any time before have the accumulated knowledge and skills of man been equal to what they are today. That wisdom and those skills have been gained both through the positive accomplishments of man and the mistakes that he has made. If we can build upon the positive accomplishments, minimize the repetition of mistakes, use our own best resourcefulness, creativity, and innovation, we can build the best society that man has ever known. Mine is not a utopian point of view, but rather, a point of view that man can create a society that is relatively better than he has to this time known. 1 do believe that man is more than just another animal, possibly more intelligent than the others, but nevertheless just another animal. I believe that there is a super-human, all-wise being to which man is related and from which man can draw strength and wisdom. What I say, from this point forward, will be built on that supposition. Since my supposition infers some kind of spiritual relationship between man and an allwise being, it seems safe to assume that that relationship can lx fruitful to man if man so desires and, thus, makes himself eligible to draw from that source of strength. In my concept of the relationship between man and a super being, man is expected to use all of the intelligence with which he has been endowed in a process toward individual maximum development from which a better society could be one of the products. He, man, must, to complete the concept, make himself eligible for the strength that can potentially come from a superhuman, all-wise being. He must, somehow, learn or re-learn how to make communication with that great source of power. Man has, by the use of his intellect, gained much knowledge, especially scientific or fact knowledge, about the nature of the world in which he lives, and even considerably about the relationship between the world and the universe of which it is a part, but he seems to have learned almost nothing about how to live together with his fellows in a condition of peace. All but a relatively few very selfishly motivated people in the world seem to want peace, yet it seemingly cannot be achieved. I submit that much progress could be made toward gaining an objective of peace for all” if man would turn much of his most resourceful intellectual efforts toward learning what conditions are necessary to assure peace among men. And, that the process could be greatly expedited if man could learn or re-learn how to establish contact with the super-human, all-wise being, and make himself eligible to draw strength and wisdom from that source. I will conclude this brief statement with a quotation made by Benjamin Franklin during the time our forefathers were struggling (sometimes seemingly hopelessly) with the development of a basic law or constitution under which our kind of government could be established: . . .The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: THAT GOD GOVERNS IN THE AFFAIRS OF MAN. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? Continuing in the same vein, making the point that the Constitutional Convention could fail without God's help, he said: . . .We shall be divided by our little partial local interests. . . And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing governments by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war, and conquest. 179 EPHRAIM CITY EXTENDS A WARM WELCOME TO SNOW STUDENTS AND IS PROUD TO BE THE HOME OF SNOW COLLEGE STUBBS INC.
