SNOWONIAN 1965 VOLUME XLIV PUBLISHED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDEN T BODY OF SNOW COLLEGE EPHRAIM, UTAH lithographed by COMMUNITY PRESS Orem, Utah TABLE OF CONTENTS SEEING Campus Administration Faculty BEING Student Officers Sophomore Class Freshman Class Honor Students Coeds of the Month Men of the Hour Royalty DOING Publication Staffs Student Committees Musical Groups Productions Clubs Activities Sports Advertisements 2 HEARING College is seeing — seeing the physical makeup of the campus, buildings, and grounds. College is seeing the human element of the campus — people, students, and teachers. College is seeing the integration of these factors into a workable whole. College is being—it is being a person. It is being a person who is succeeding, or failing; it is being a person who is groping, and searching, and perhaps finding; it is being a person who is lost, or whom has found himself, who has become a part, who belongs, who is moving forward toward some distant goal. It is being sad, happy, wistful or satisfied. It is being a part of a search for character; it is being a part of a search for the answer to dreams or aspirations. It is being a member of a fraternity of young people eager to find their place in society. College is doing — it is the rhythmic tapping of fingers on typewriter keys; the bone jarring tackles on autumn afternoons; the assembling of data, the writing of notes, the dancing, the singing and listening. It is expressing oneself through unselfish participation in collegiate activities. College is hearing—the gabble of voices in the Campus Center; the clicking of heels down hallways as late-goers hurry to class; the low murmur from classrooms, and sometimes laughter; the ceaseless sounds by day, the long silences of night. College is hearing the sounds of people, of students and faculty working and playing together. 3 THE WHITE AND GOLD Oil, flag of white and gold, to the breeze unfold, As we shout all hail! A story sweet is told in each silken fold. Which we love so well! A tale of love and youth and search for truth, In our temple fair. Oh, banner so bright, rich in gold, Pure and white To be like you is our fond prayer. 6 BOARD PRESIDENT Daryl Chase Preiidenl Utah Scare University and its Branches Henry R Hurren Logan Lucille O. E. instructor at Snow College, has moved his family into the Men's Dormitory at Second North on First East Street, where Coach Woodbury. now studying for his doctorate at the University of Utah, lived formerly. Mr. Englestcad’s roots arr-panguitch, where h s fami'v was born and attended school. He taught at Dixie College for two years but returned to Fanguitch upon the death of his father-in-law to manage the family farm. Since then he taught at Panguitch High School until accepting his new assignment. The Englestead's have five Registration? — The Total’s Up Lines of students talking with advisers, obtaining class cards and paying registration fees tell the story of Wednesday’s registration. Thursday, students will be meeting their instructors, learning the names of textbooks and getting their first assignments. The Fall Quarter is underway. Although enrollment totals for the quarter will not be available for several days yet, school officials expect registration numbers to break previous Fall Quarter records substantially. That means a registration total well above 500 students. And this figure will be hiked again when adult evening classes get underway sometime in October. Registrar Ross P. Findlay has issued some special recommendations for students completing registration: —Students with out-of-state cars should obtain a permit from the Registrar’s office which will enable them to operate their vehicles in Utah without obtaining Utah license plates. —Students affected by Selective Service regulations should obtain a form from the Registrar which they will use in reporting their school status to their draft boards children, Ronald 20, Kay 17, LaRac 13. Mark 10. and Dean 9. WOMEN’S RESIDENCE HALL Campus GrowHi-lf s Major Chapter in Snow Story Campus growth — these words tell the story. This fall it is the new (and yet unnamed) women’s residence unit and the privately owned and operated Kofford Apartments. Last year it was the Student Center and the new (and still unnamed) men’s dorm. And new construction projects are in the offing. Business Manager I-ec R. Thompson has announced. The new residence hall for women is providing living space for 72 coeds in 12 apartments. Each apartment contains three bedroom-study rooms, bath and combination kitchen-liv- ing room. Mrs. Agatha Nay is the dorm mother. The Kofford Apartments flow nearing completion will provide housing for 96 men. They will live in units containing two bedrooms, a bath 'and a kitchen-living room. JSach unit has an outside entrance. The Kofford Apartments are privately owned and operated, but will conform with stand brds established for campus housing facilities. The new housing will not bnly provide additional living quarters, but will help to relieve what were overcrowded conditions in some dormitories last year and replace some sub-standard housing, college officials explain. Next item on the campus building program, according to Mr. Thompson, will be the new physical education setup on the tract extending east from the Multi-Purpose Building. Complete development of the site will include the construction of an 8,000 square foot building to house offices, dressing and storage rooms and other items and a new football field, baseball diamond. tennis courts and areas for other physical education activities. Plans for the physical education have been completed and bids for construction of its first phase will be called for this fall. DATE LINE Oet. 1 — Classwork begins Oct. 1 — Freshman assembly.
