JAMES a. NuTTALL. President The challenge which presents itself to the youthful citizen of today is a glorious one. The experiences of the past decade have laid bare many of the shortcomings of our philosophy of life as a nation and have demanded a new philosophy that will more fully meet the requirements of the new economic status which has developed since the passing of the western frontier. Can you students of 1938 accept the challenge? Has your college experience given to you the power to think, to analyze, to evaluate, to form opinions, to act on those opinions, and to keep an open mind, one ready to receive new truths and willing to modify its opinions when new knowledge shows the need for such modification? Or will your college life leave you with a radical attitude, selfish and unwilling to grapple with the problems of society? If the former is your status, a rich future awaits you. The leaders of tomorrow, if they accept the challenge of today, have the opportunity of achievements as glorious as any yet accomplished in America or in the world. May you accept this challenge?
