STRUCTURE FOREWORD Drama does not necessarily pertain to a stage play or performance, it can be everything that is happening each day. Human drama can be defined as a series of events in real life having the interest of a play. Therefore drama was a natural theme for this year's annual. As we pro- gress through high school, our classes each year can be paralleled to the acts ofa play. This is the basis upon which the present edition of the Kla-Ta-Wa is formed. Translated, Kla-Ta-Wa means we are leaving. It is with pleasant memories tinged with regret that we play the final act of our high school per- formance. The directors and the players have done their parts well. Now we proceed into the expanded theater of human drama where as Shakespeare has said, All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. -ELAINE BOLDUAN, Editor. -,ZA Y 5, 'i ?'b:-H j 'Q5-, ' PAGE TWO OF THE PLAY wax . ff' '4??'4gzc 1 . x 'T ll lr TABLE OF CONTENTS Aclministralion and Faculty ,, Classes ,, Sports . I THE BEAT GN STAGE DRILL TEAM The drill team started the new school year with Susan Waltz as captain, Sandy Schott as lieutenant, Pat Keller as sergeant-at-arms, and Jayleen Hunt as secretary. A total of 29 new members were selected at tryouts held at the first of each semester. The team marched at a professional foot- ball game in Vancouver, Canada, for Home- coming, for the Shrine football game, and for two basketball games. March 30 was a big day for the drill team. Snohomish was host for the seventh annual drill team conference which was attended by drill teams from I6 schools. New red military style uniforms were another highlight of the year. With their adviser, Mrs. Elfstrom, the group worked hard and also had many good times together. FOLK DANCING Folk Dancing today includes the traditional European dances as well as our own Ameri- can cowboy dances and Jitterbug . The folk dance group with many new re- cruits began with several months of intensive basic training. The thirty-five minute period was stretched, playing only half a record for each mixer and partner dance. By semester end everyone could two-step, polka, fox trot, schottische, square dance and iitterbug. Square dancing, sometimes called our only American folk dance, required an intense concentration and a metronome type of rythm. The folk dance group swung through a hi- larious and speedy patter square called by Mr. Jarrett for the Orthopedic Performance late in October. By the end of the year the group could do more than twenty-five mixers, a dozen couple dances, as many true European folk dances, several squares and a possible iitterbug. Firemen have the responsibility of hold- ing open the doors and checking the rooms during fire drills and in the event of a real fire. This year marked the first time that fire hoses in the school were manned by two- men crews due to increased enrollment. Drills during the year ran very smoothly. The best time for clearing the building was one minute and thirty seconds, which was considered very good for the number of students. A sign drawn by fireman Steve Kester was placed in the study hall and its directions greatly assisted in clearing the crowded study hall area during drills PANTHER PATROL Anyone who has ever remarked about the beautiful unlittered campus of Snohomish High largely owed this compliment whether he knew it or not to the Panther Patrol. Di- rected by Paul Shorrock, Snohomish High School English teacher, this group of boys also did its share at football and basketball games. During football season, these devoted work- ers patrolled the football field keeping spec- tators behind the lines and preserving order behind the stands or at either end of the field. They also watched unauthorized entrances. Their duty during basketball season was to watch the aisles and exits and to patrol the halls of the iunicr high building. Panther Patrol was not a large group, but it deserved praise for necessary and unosten- tatious iobs well done l lA cyk Darrell Lokken Dick Johnson Front Row Bill Peacor Larry Nnlan N ls Fortcnc Dan Jones Jerry Bros us Don Webb Don Stewart Glen Krws Jerry Cirlson Lower Picture PANTHER PATROL Eugene Ma er Pwl Krotkc Bob Hll Burtow Cool Leonard Gay Gary Huck Harold Hagen Mr Shorrock PAGE 'SEVEN Y TWO pc ,, I S A ' l r A i A f l . yi. l .C yr .1 I I f lllpper ricfure - FIREMEN - Back Row: Rich Larson, Edward Knaapc, Dick Butler, Kile Berg, Jack Bruce, Steve Koster, John Van r , . : , , i - , , l , , , 1 0, 1 .
