Student Council At the first fall student councrl meeting on October 4 Bill Ingalls assumed control of student gov ernment assisted by Imogene Jones vrce presrdent Kathleen Schoknecht secretary and Jack Crook treasurer The frrst business to be settled concerned the award of musrc sweaters for band and choir The decrsron of the music groups themselves concernrng the type of emblem was accepted by the councrl Promotron of school spurt and enthusiasm has always been a major concern of the student coun crl Several plans for electmg yell leaders have been used rn the past with varyrng degrees of success but the perfect method hasnt yet been drscovered This year a strll different plan was used that of lecting yell leaders rn groups rather than srngly Roger Wrllrams was rn charge of the yell leader try out held on November 24 Seven groups trred out A group of three boys Grl Swartzmrller Glen Moore and Tony Broers replaced the almost traditional group of girls as our yell leaders Nomrnatrons for second semester made by the nomrnatrng committee included the followrng can drdates President Art Prlichowskr Marilyn Stocker Secretary Imogene Jones Cecrlra McDonald Jo Ann Anderson Treasurer Irma Weberlmg Martha Beckmeyer Two additional candrdates for presrdent Prrscrlla Peterson and Leonard Weberlmg were nomrnated by student petrtron A vrgorous and colorful campaign assembly was held on January 14 and posters of all kinds dotted the halls and classrooms Some boosters wore lDd1V1dUal placards rn support of their candidate Votrng procedure for the second semester was rmproved by placing the voting polls rn the speech rcom to enable students to vote any time of the day One of the trongest objections to thrs pro cedure had been that few of the students would take the trouble to vote However when votes wer tal lied rt was found that ovr eighty per cent of the student body partrcrpated in the electron New offrcers for the second semester were Art Prlrchowskl presrdent Marilyn Stocker vice presrdent Irma Web erlrng treasurer Imogene Jones secretary On February 3 our new presrdent Art Prlrchowskr presrded at ms first student councrl meetrng Two new committees for the ensuing semester were appointed assembly Harold Porter Irma Weber ling and Imogene Jones bulletm boards Glen Larsen and Janet Harris To enable classes and organizations who follow to have rnformatron to help them plan their own actrvrtres the council decided to ask each organrzatlon to leave a full report of its actrvltres rhe report would rnclude such rmportant lnfor matron as costs and quantities of materials It was felt that baseball and track have not had the student enthusiasm and support gryen to basketball and football Drscussron on thrs problem led the councrl to decrde to have a sports reporter who has kept our stu dent body mformed about the outcome of games and sports events that the majority of students would not hear about otherwrse A new permanent ticket booth to be constructed by the carpentry class wrll add much to the comfort and efficiency of trcket selling next fall At that time we hope to have student committees organrzed to take charge of selling tickets to all athletic events One of the largest all school activitres spons red by the student body was the Forty Nrners Frolrc held on March 28 The forty nrners mining town including The Palace Cafe a bank Jarl post office barber shop and other concessrons sponsored by eighteen school organizations afforded a full evening ized concessions all eyenrng Several spectacular Jarl breaks were accomplrshed rrght under the nose of the Judge The Junior class concession Rollin Gold was an authentrc replrca of a log structure and won frrst prize for it orrgrnal ty Second prize went to the barber shop sponsored by Miss Errcksons drama club The Frolic was organrzed by the following committee chairmen Construction Cy Bro- ers Gil Moyer Program Janet Harris Prizes LaRoy Wrlght Raffles B111 the result of the work of the student council meetlng regularly on Friday during Actrvrty perrod Thrs class has met the great need of many students for dancrng rnstructlon Each year a great deal of
