Freshman Class Bang' Bang' Phe gavel was brought down heavrly upon the desk by Ted Brrtten and Paul Shor rock freshmen class advrsers at the begrnnrng of the year Yes the rntellrgent class of 50 was brought to order to elect therr offrcers Although many grrls wanted the female sex to lead as presrdent the one and only Pmky Crook was elected But Jean Lambert really shoved the grrls up by berng elected vrce presrdent Then Don Jacobson was nomrnated for secretary fby a grrlb and he won unanrmously And so the freshman class was off to a wonderful start When basketball season rolled around the freshmen class was rn there shrnrng Our frve Bob Crook Don Jacobson Ken Gabrro Bob Keaton and Jake Goss won the county champronshrp They lost only two non league games Ah but dont forget the grrls' A rew of the grrls were at all the games rootlng hard wrth Audrey Popprnc usually leadrng them We had loads of fun and although there were only about ten of us we yelled loud enough to brrng the roof down Then when the flowers were rn bloom and brrds were srngrng came the freshman dance The Babys Bawl Decoratrons consrsted of small prnk and blue bootres hung damtrly around the walls and prnk and blue crepe paper streamers It was a wonderful success and every one had a brg txme Pmky drd a great Job of announcrng hrs commrttees although he drd run over a few words rough shod He ought to bf a radro narrator The commlttees were entertainment Edythe Ann Donner decoratrons Janlce Merrrtt refreshments Joan Cooper publrcrty Sue Bonney and Jerry Stocker musrc Vall Strllm rn Mr Shorrock assrstant class adyrser had a gr and time wrth hrs freshmen grrls trylng to make them settle down before the dance In later sprrng the young mens hearts turned to what the grrls had been thrnkrng of all year and cuprds arrow fell rnto the hearts of many Then thc young love of the grassy green came to lrfe and out of rt came a few couples As a whole September 8 1946 was a grand day for SHS because the brarn students entered for thelr frrst year J annre Lambert was elected one ol the yell leaders 'rnd she was really a good one We also had Audrey Popprno Jane Tozer Jean Lambert June Vrncent Jane Greenleaf and Phyllrs Behlrng on frrst tumblrng team Then there were the grrls wrth rhythm rn therr every step Yes Edvthe Ann Donner Beverly Barnett Rosemary Gunderson and Frerda Pressly were rn the hrgh and mrghty drrll team But never forg t the freshman musrc' Ah no' We had a small group called the Harmonarres A we walked down the hall toward our locker we were sure to hear a clear note of srngrng and we were always sure that rt was erther Joan Cooper Suzr Caldwell Sue Bonney Joy Lorenson Jamce Mer rrtt Betty Ann Mars Varl Strllman Joyce Dwyer or Nlrckey Rernke There were also many students rn SHS band and chorr Summrng up the whole year we may have been called everythrng from wet behrnd the ears to grassy green but Just the same when the class of 5C entered SHS a new spark was added and wrll forever burn brrghtly rn her pages of hrstory Freshman Class Offrcers Mr Ted Brrtten advrser Bob Crook presrdent Jean Lambert vrce presrdent Don Jacobson sec retary Jackre Morrrs treasurer Mr Paul Shorrock advrser UPPER PICTURE BOTTOM ROW left to rrght Earl Carey Lee Allerdrce Walter Grlreath Leslre Benmngfreld Ronald Broughton Bob Courtney Frank Costrn Don Fankhauser Charles Drresler ROW 2 La Verne Frtzthum Wesley Loback Dallen Brown Morna.
