The sixth grade was made up of twenty-four active, in- volved students. Many activities revolved around the sixth grade class: they participated in Jr. High football, basket- ball, and track. An annual Checkerboard tournament with a championship bout between 1981-82 champion Barry Rackler and the 1983-84 winner was a favorite event. The sixth grade was also involved in studying for LllL spelling, oral reading, number sense, and music memory contests. A field trip to Southwestern Power 8 Light to watch electricity being generated and to Lubbock City Water Plant to watch the purification of water was a valuable learning experience for the kids.
