Marjorie Coughlin - . . . y 1 I - ' It ' 11 I el 11 HISTORY OF THE F F A The flrst day of school September 7 1948 found forty s1x members enrolled m the Vocational Agricultural Class here at Smoot The class xmmedlately began plans to organize a Future Farmers Chapter Wlth a little and from the various other F F A Chapters al ready orgamzed 1n Greenbrner County we were ready to organxze and elect ofhcers by the last of September On November 18 1948 the Ronceverte Chapter of F F A came to Smoot to lnltlate us as Green Hands mto the Future Farmers of Amerlca It was a very good ex per1ence for all however It hurt the d1gn1ty of a few boys on the lower end ? 'P 'P We were then off1c1a1F F A members wrth a new set of offlcers The chapter has been respons1ble for varlous jobs undertaken and completed here on the schoolground Our flrst Job was to bulld a board walk from the mam bulldmg to our Vocatlonal Agrxculture class room down m Draft Hollow that 15 a place about 100 feet from the school bulldmg In November we helped the County Board of Educa tlon pour concrete for our shop floor We are now laboring on a fence bulldmg job I thmk 'P '7 'P 'P 'P Our chapter has and is sponsormg a number of outslde ac twxtles to ralse money for our chapter treasury Our f1rst undertaking was a shootmg match and we made S23 OO On February 4 1949 w sponsored a group of entertamers from stat1on WRON and made S13 75 We made S25 00 cuttmg brush but we have already donated xt to the Hot Lunch Program Z7 . 1 1 1 '- . . . , . . a I i . : . . .
