A A ■ A 5l A r i f SHJIOE CLASS HI3T0RY Many people re mammer 1929 as the year of the big stock market crash. To us, the Seniors of ’40, 1929 was an eventful year in another way. In that year about thirty youngsters entered the first grade of Smoaks Public Schools. As the years went by we lost quite a few members because of various reasons, yn the other hand we gained about as many as we lost. Of the thirty that began in 1929 there are now only seven of this number in the senior class. The first of these seven is Jeff barren. Jeff has not grown much physically, oat mentally he has been a great asset to us. If it were not for Jewel Smith's excellent work one would net kuCW that she was present, for Jewel's behavior has always been of the best quality. One of our greatest assets in the athletic world was found in Mendel Smoak. There is hardly a sport in which he has not been a participant. Ruth Varnadoe cones under the heading of our oependaol quiet, and very industrious students. In most groups there will be found an artist, Earl Bamsey has this ability coupled with the desire to be a part of all fun. Proa the records on file since 1929, Jack Connor has been an outstanding student through the eleven years. He was not athletically inclined but he was the life saver for the entire class when it carae to difficult problems. The first new member of oui class was Jack barren. Jack is an excellent student and has always worked for the best of the class. Hazel Harrell, the next student to ioin us has always been above average in her work and activities.
