This has been a grand year for the spirited sophomores of '57, We started with a membership of sixty-eight pupils, Following the traditional, our first big event was electing the following officers: President -------- Richard Carmony Vice President - Jim Lonier Secretary - - Nancy Gresser Treasurer - Marjorie Moomaw Sgt. at Arms - - Pat Mosier Student Council Lois Singer Rex Wagers Social Chairmen Louise Singer Ted Berkey One of our big events was receiving our class sweaters which are beige with brown emblems. Our social year started with a Halloween party given by Marjorie Moomaw. Then the first big snow provided us with a sledding party at the Wooster Country Club. When it comes to sports, the sophomore boys spelled trouble .many times to other teams. We also had a good representation in the field of baseball and track. Music can't stop us either as four of our Sophomores won the highest ratings at Kent. As the end of the year arrives, we look back with glowing satisfaction at our senior trip L'kitty and how it has grown this year, First we had a fish fry. Then we sold basketball sched- ule pencils and candy. Next we sponsored the F.F.A. advisors banquet, and sold baked goods after the tournament game. The big event of the yea r was our style show with members of the class modeling fashions and providing entertainment. Thus we end a very happy year with two m ore years to look forward to. 28

There were 80 some students that came ffrom Madisonburg, Marshallville and Smithville to make up the Freshman class. We entered the halls of Smithville High for the first time with a certain amount of dignity and pride even though we were a bit scared. For the first few weeks we had trouble finding the right classes at the right time. As we progressed and learned to know each other better we decided to elect our officers for the year.
