Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1974 volume:

foreword 'Dedication In Appreciation of the excellent services provided in die past years the yearbook staff would like to de- dicate our 1973-1974 yearbook to three very fine people. Regretfully two of the three individuals are retiring this year. To them, Mrs. Bowling and Mrs. Scott, we wish to extend our sincere thanks for a job well done in providing us with an excellent education. We also would like to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Tom Barker who is doing such an outstanding job as our new superintendent. Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Bowling began teaching here exactly eight years ago. They have given much in the way of time and service in the education profession in the many years of teachinghere in Smithville Public School system. We would like to say goodbye to them and Good Luck to Mr. Barker in the future. yearbook Staff 2 Zke yearbook Staff of ‘74 Front Roll: Judy Talley Editor Felecia Rowell Beverly Bailey Back Roll: Shelia Pollard Barbara Batchelor 3 Tom Barker Superintendent George Brown Junior High Principal Jim Glenn Principal Paul Cook School Purchasing TO THE STUDENT BODY OF SMITHYILLE HIGH SCHOOL I accept with great pleasure this invitation of die Yearbook Staff to address the student body. Since coining here this year as your superintendent, I have enjoyed getting to know you, working with you, and helping you plan your cours- es of study and your student activities. Thank you for your friendly, courteous cooperation. The good school spirit that you have displayed on campus and in the field—whether it was competing with other schools in vocational meets, in academic excellence, accepting responsibolity in extracurricular activities, or on the back-board and mound—has made me proud to be on your team. You are a fortunate group of students in many ways. Nestled here In the heartland of our great nation amid forest and stream, you have neither the crowded city-ghetto specter nor the worsening shroud of pollution. Sired by fore-fathers who were not afraid of work, tempered by hardship and adversity, and schooled in the belief that brotherhood and the rights of man are sacred, you here can grow tall and reach uncharted heights. Try it. I wish for all of you the best, and I look forward to being with you next year.
