I congratulate the Senior Class upon this record of life at Smithsburg High School I hope that it will, in the future, recall pleasant memories of the days spent here. I hope, also, that it will encourage our students to take every advantage of the educational opportunities that are offered. Charles A. Summers, Prill

Ou% Sc ooi Pictured above is the standard school ring of Smithsburg High School. This ring was designed for the High School by a group of teachers, students, and alumni, and contracted to the L. G. Balfour Company for a five year period. The ring is fashioned of yellow 10 carat gold, the girl's being four pennyweight and the boy's six. It has a royal finish, and may be one of three settings: onyx, ruby, or spinel blue. The stone, which is Prisma-tite sealed, may be either cut or buffed. The school seal appears on both shanks bearing a shield with an Old English type S on it. At the top of the shield is the lamp of knowledge symbolizing the light of learning. At the bottom is inscribed, on a banner, the Latin words, In Medias Res (In the midst of things). The class numerals appear on each shank. The space around the setting on the head of the ring bears the name Smithsburg High School. Each ring is personalized on the inside by the engraved initials of its owner. The seniors of 1958 are proud to be the first graduating class to wear it.
