He came to us after school had begun Orchestra and band he directs His place to quickly win, Faults he can quickly tell, And now the year is almost done The best from each one he expects We like his friendly grin. That's why he's liked so well. MUNSLOW, NELLIE Our glee club is her special charge She fills her place with cheer, Although the task is very large She's been successful here. EILEEN FERRARI Proud Piney claims her as its own For there she lives and has her home, But here in Smithfield, she's a star In basketball. She will go far. RALPH FORD He drives a car of the same name To which he lays his proud claim, A fellow with a friendly smile To know him, surely is worth- while. KATHRYNE HENRY Votes for female presidents That is what we say, V al edictory is her aim A great editor today. GOLDIE HOWARD Goldie's smile is so demure Her manner is so sweet, She will be a hit we know VVith everyone she'll meet. LOUIS MAZI He plays in orchestra and band The sax, for his own pleasure, Leads his Smithonian band Through the latest measure. LILLIE MAE LAWSON A quiet girl with a friendly smile That's very often seen, Lillie likes to Write poetry That really is quite keen. HAROLD PARKS Buzz is the sort of a chap You like without knowing WIIY, He can cheer you up until You forget to sigh. Seniors C olors: Blue and'Gold HAROLD HENDERSON As Scotty he made quite a hit In our Senior Play, In orchestra, debate and band He winds his merry way. VERDA HUNTER Altho in Glee Club it Won't help Our Verda to be tall, She finds that height is quite the thing She needs for basketball. ELM ER SMITH Elmer helped our football team Thru a season tough, He's the patient peaceful kind And neve-r's in a huff. EDNA PASCO Edna's a quiet dependable girl The kind you like to know, The kind you ask to stay awhile And hate to see her go. l 1 l GLADYS RIEGLE Smiling eyes and dimples sweet Ways that are quite charming, She is nice to all she meets With never a thought of harm- ing. LEWIS SABO Our popular president here we see Our captain in football season, Everybody likes our Lewis And all with very good reason. LUCY RIZZI Managing our lassies team Sending them to bed to dream, Lucy is an all 'round tease But the teachers she does please. WYLIE WILSON Wylie is quite good in shop And helps the teacher out, The kind of a Elly You like A nice sort of a scout. Seniors Flower: Yellow Tea Rose CHARLES REYNARD Chuck has a style that's all his own In English composition, That should help him to make good In a big position. ARMINA RISH Armina is a quiet girl And knows her lessons well, Her many friends in school Will her good nature tell. JOHN SHARP Jack is the class's busiest boy His smile is a welcome joy, For his popularity there's a reason He's manager in basketball season. EMMA TFIELLA Emma is the quiet kind That we so rarely hnd, Quite the kind to whom we say Success will surely come your way. Seniors In nineteen hundred and thirty We started on the way, That was to bring us finally To graduation day. We started in as freshmen lThe greenest of the greenl, But soon our worth and value By the teachers could be seen. We worked hard and studied Until that year was o'er, And thus attained In '31 The rank of sophomore. We were the brightest pupils fOr so the teachers saidj, In every school activity Our class was at the head. This year was like the first one So quickly on did pass, That before we knew lt We were the junior class. As juniors, to the seniors An invite we extended, To the annual Jr. prom And every one attended. This year went by so swiftly In fact it left too soon,' But ere it passed we took A Manhattan Honeymoon. When next we gathered in thes walls It was with grave demeanor, As befltted to our rank- The lofty one of Senior. As Seniors we were very good But neither proud nor haughty, And added to our growing fame With the help of Scotty. And now the day approacheth When to dear Smithfield High, With grieving hearts and tearful eyes We bid a fond goodbye. Opponents found we were no cinch They had to iight for every inch. W'e played the game with main and m Gave our opponents a tough iight. Although all the games we didn't win VVe fought each moment we were in. Though we lost to a strong Shadyside VVe scored on them and lowered thei We're looking forward to next year With spirit filled with hope and cheer ight r pride V , JOE BARZAN-Quarterback He gave the rooters quite a thrill As his position he well did fill, His punt returns earned many a cheer And he'll be back another year. LOUIS MAZI-Guard GeGe played in the line His work there was surely fine, Tho he didn't play in season's past This year was for him the last. CHARLES RENSI-Guard Chuck was in there every game He was very far from tame, Bold and rough without a. fear We're glad he'll play another year. JIM WATKINS-Center Jim could pass as well as catch His ability is hard to match, Judging from his work at center He'll delight his next year's mentor. NORRIS BEAVERS-Tackle Although he lirst tried the backlield He would that tackling was his deal, He was good and without fear He will be needed for next year. ROBERT JOH NSON-Halfback Bob had plenty of gettup and go His work was never. never slow, His tackling and real ability Is proof that a. star he should be, ELM ER SMITH-Tackle Tolan's the name by which he's known His style of work is all his own, He was dependable in getting the ball He'll be sadly missed by the team next fall. EUGEN E ROSA-Guard A hundred and fifty pounds of T.N.T. A sensation next year he should be, Although his start was rather late His work was surely great. GEORGE JEFFERSON-End .Teft's experience served him well As his opponents can surely tell, His playing often deserved a cheer We're sorry he can't play next year. STEVE KINYO-End Steve played with all his might To help the team win the iight, His foes testify to his roughness He'1l come back next fall to show his toughness. ARTHUR PERSELLO-End A brilliant punter is this boy His passing was our rooters joy, On him we base our next year's dream Of having the Val1ey's Champion team. LEWIS SABO-Tackle Captain of this year's varsity Tackle of all 'round ability, Opponents hope low he did lay We're sorry next year he won't play. RALPH PIETRANGELO-End His tackling and all 'round ability Earned his place on the varsity, He's following in footsteps of his brother Al Keep up the good work next year, Ral. VAN DY BEAVERS-Halfback Vandy was switched from center to this position Which better suits his disposition, His ball carrying jobs were so neat We're glad next year he'll duplicate this feat. PAUL SMITH-Guard A late start handicapped this lad But each game, he gave all he had, We're glad his fine ability Is available for next year's varsity. BILL ARMSTRONG-Quarterback Handicapped by injuries many Ot grit and scrappiness he had plenty, We believe he'll be without a peer When he gets going again next year. 9 HOWARD FISHER-Guard Howdy was the Smithfield flash He played the game with verve and dash, At long range shots he had no peer We're glad that he'll be back next year. ARTHUR PERSELLO-F0r'waI d Arthur was captain and a good forward Always found heading gym floor-ward, His praises will his teammates tell He made the team of the E.O.A.L. PAUL SMITH-Guard Long range field goals were his meat He dropped them in, in shots so neat, He was so adept at handling the sphere We'll welcome him back another year. GEORGE JEFFERSON-Center On offense and defense equally good Opponents couldn't stop him try as they wo His marked ability in handling the ball uld, Will surely be missed by the team next fall. LeMOYNE MURRAY-Guard Moyne practiced often at the gym He played his game with pep and vim, Never lost sight of his goal-to win Next year he'll be back again. STEVE KINYO-Forward So very tall and quicll was he He gained a place on the varsity, And since he's only a Sophomore We can count on Steve for two year JOE BA RZAN-Guard His speed assured him his position As did his scrappy disposition, He's popular in every way We're glad that next year he'll be back S IIIOFB. to play Boys' Basketball 1933-1934 Although our start was very slow And hard the way we had to go, Bergholz first took our measure. A finish that was really grand VVe made by our tournament stand. Wle held Amsterdam's Champion team Beyond all reason it did seem. So with a growing hope to cheer lVe're looking forward to next year. Champions were they in every way In their swift and accurate play, In teamwork they found delight And together they did light. At Hopedale only did we yield To the brand of ball they wield. Champions still are we For they're not in our county. VVe played our games on the square Beat our opponents by methods fair Tho three are lost, we do not fear, We'll come thru again next year. DORIS STRICKLER-Guard Doris' work was rough and scrappy Her work in passing was quite snappy, Just a Freshman now ls she That means she'll play years three.
