What is it -- a sewing machine? The joy of preparing a meal without burning it is one of the few things a girl learns to do while taking Home Ec. It is concerned with all aspects of family life. Home Ec. also includes construction and care of clothing and home man- agement. This year S.H.S. has added a third year of Home Ec. to provide the girls with the knowledge of the little things that make life more enjoyable. MRS. LOU WOODARD B.S. Distributive Education MR. WAYNE PEED B.S. East Carolina College Marketing and Distributive Education Mrs. Creech is still trying to teach us our ABC ' s. Typing Here at S.H.S. we have many courses which prepare students for jobs after graduation. In the D. E. department students are told about all the business ethics, and how to be a good salesman. After the classroom training , they go out and have on-the-job training. This gives them the experience which they need in life. The sounds of ringing bells and the tapping of keys can be heard coming from this depart- ment nearly all day. Here sophomores and jun- iors learn the magic art of pressing keys and pro- ducing a flawless paper. Mrs. Creech also has classes of shorthand which follow right along with typing in preparing girls for secretarial jobs. 18 Now, be sure to get your figures right.

Music is the art of the prophets, the only art that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us. -- Luther Music If sounds are any indication of activity, there is always something going in our music department. From the melodic tones of chorus rehearsal to the clanging of symbols from the bandroom, there is always something to listen to. And this is, of course, the purpose of these departments --to make stu- dents capable of commanding the attention of the world ' s ear. MR. LEE ROGERS B.S. , M. A.
